4/19/12-4/25/12. I know some who get better deals on Milorganite at Farm & Fleet, etc. but in my area of Ohio, this is the cheapest it has been in years. Normal price is $12+. Still the best fertilizer that I know of. 4% naturally chelated iron. One bag covers 2500sq.ft.

Organic-based products is the way to go. I know some people have issues with the origination of Milorganite, but it is poop that has been processed by bacteria and then heated and pelletized. The result is a slow-release product with 4% iron (more than most other products when talking about #/sq.ft) that won't jack up your lawn. Organic-based products are activated mainly by beneficial microbes and will not burn. These same microbes will bust thatch. Golf courses, sod farms already use biosolids such as Milorganite for fertilization and some of the best kept lawns perhaps in your area. For sure, it is not exactly cheap since a bag will only cover 2,500 sq.ft., but there is nothing quite like Milorganite on the market.

I used Milorganite in my yard last year. My wife won't let me use it again but it is good fertilizer. We had the worst fly problem we've ever had and the smell is not so great either.
I'm not 100 percent sure the Milorganite was responsible for the flies but I'm sure it didn't help.

they do a similar thing in the austin area (product is called dillo dirt) and i volunteered at the facility as part of my 'Conservation' class. cool stuff. they also collect the methane that is produced while it 'cooks', forget what they use it for, but its definitely recycled
