Hope this isnt a repost. The article said 16 million vehicles may be at risk.

:Q

Wouldn't that be the largest auto recall EVAR?:Q

Well, I think dealerships could easily replace said switch, we're talking for losing what, $100 on every vehicle made in the last 15 years here? Yeah, it's bad, but not the end of the world.

16,000,000 * $100 = head explodes

that would total 16,000,000,00

:D

LOL

good job w/ the commas.

16...<pinky to mouth> BILLION dollars!

wrong, 1.6 billion dollars.

the commas was intentional as humor.

What are the chances of the fire actually happening? 16 million vehicles is over the last 5 years or more right? How many fires happened due to this?

It's probably a non issue. When you're dealing with a combustion engine, isn't every car on earth has a possibility of catching on fire?

according to the article insurance companies are saying it's in the hundreds. given that cars (being driven by combustible fuel engines) will have other ways of catching fire, you gotta figure not every ford that caught on fire the last 5 to 10 yrs or so were due to this issue.

shoot, i've driven a ford windstar the last 5 years, it hasn't caught fire yet and neither have hundreds of other fords that i personally know about.

i'd say it's not a huge issue and cnn is just trying to get some press coverage with this article. it seems to me the recalls they have are sufficient.

Ford orders these switches from third party suppliers too, you can bet these cruise control switches (at least the design of the thin film) can be found on more than just Fords...

Sorry, typo. And yeah, I know the commas were intentional. I suggest you run a self test on your sarcasm meter.

I'm not a Ford fan, and this article just serves to make me feel justified in my opinion.

At least neither of my Japanese cars have caught fire!

..I had a ford ranger and it would have been a blessing if the fuggen thing burnt to the ground early on. Would have saved me time and money and waisted trips to the fomoco dealer trying to fix it. Neva again will I have a ford.

I've always felt that way about Ford's. Used to be a big GM fan until I actually owned one. Biggest piece of crap I ever did drive.

The Dodge I owned before that was just as bad. Whereas the two Japanese cars the wife and I have are doing great. Her's is almost 10 years old!

Watch, now that I've bragged, one of our cars will break down. :p
