She dies.

Dies.

No triumphant comeback in defiance of doctors expectations. B*tch hits a stool and dies.

I was having a bad day and wanted some sappy movie to inspire me. Now, I'm just in a worse mood.

Why did she wanna become a fighter in the first place? I missed that.

I guess you managed to find one of the 0.00021% of Hollywood movies that do not fit that criteria.

Everyone kept talking about how sad it was so when I went in to see the movie, it was kind of obvious that she was going to die.

I missed the very beginning. Why did she want to be a fighter.

To make money for the welfare family? Is that the sole motivation?

ugh its nothing new. there are loads of movies where the characters die at the end... the sea inside, the barbarian invasions...many a sappy movie. terms of endearment, gia, saving private ryan. yet critics get wet over "artsy" films esp by eastwood..as if its something new.

It was adapted from a book of true short stories related to boxing from a real life manager and cutman Jerry Boyd.

The fact is, this movie need not be compared to other films just on the basis of the main character dying at the end. This movie has many qualities past that and I doubt it's ratings come in the good light just from being different then the rest of the bunch. The acting was awesome and the atmosphere of the movie was well filmed. At the start, I thought the movie was taking place sometime around the 50's 60's...everything looked so run down...the guy from Texas (Danger) called Morgan Freeman a N*igger...but then it's like wow...this is taking place at our present time....

Great movie :)

I am sorry that you could not appreciate a movie. Well, I can not contend on that since it is matter of personal choice when it comes to art.

I liked Million Dollar Baby for several reasons and I am going to list some of them here to make the point in non-objective format.

It is basically story about a man who has seen himself failing not once but twice when he was not able to save Morgan Freeman, 27 years ago during the boxing match. He is holding himself responsible for his loss of the title and yes of course, loss of his one of eyes. (This becomes quite evident when Maggy Fitzgerald is lying on the death-bed and requesting him to kill her; he contemplates that decision then goes to Priest, who seems to be Catholic does not allow him to do so, but in response he says that he has already done that 27 years ago!).

At the same time, he is trying to find the reason why his only daughter left him and where is she? He is trying to find what his daughter means to him now?

Maggy is a not-so-young-for-boxing girl from abused and poor Southern family trying to erase deep marks left on her mind and to remove the stigma as well, who is trying to prove herself. She finds boxing as one of the ways to let out all the aggression.

In the meantime, Clint Eastwood's character is dubbed to train guy "to" championship but not for the championship. This is because perhaps he is a good boxing trainer, he is never confident about his methods or about his student! But as the term "Million Dollar Baby" appeals to me, the baby is worth million dollar or you prepare the bbay to win million dollars, that baby (person in training for championship) is not going to stay with you, so to me, Clint Eastwood is always in this utopian dream of having his student win the title.

But he is not growing old and he sees that fire in Maggy's eyes and decided to train her. They subsequently win many boxing matches but again he fails to win the title, he again faults himself for "She did listen to me...'Always Protect Yourself'

When Maggy can not recuperate her ties with her family and when she realizes that all her family cares about is money, she sees Cint Eastwood as her father figure and leans on him for support, this is evident when she reminisces about her actual father and the dog.

In end, I would like to say it is a great story of a person who is trying to find his lost soul, a girl who's downtrodden and is now trying to prove herself to the mark and a man (Freeman) who could not just achieve his dreams!

I suppose by ever standard measure it's a great movie. Great acting, great story.

Just didn't click with me though. Maybe it's my mood tonight.

I liked it. It was a good story with good cinematography and good acting, not much more I could've asked for.

Could someone point out the overly bad parts of the movie? I failed to see them.

She had a 300 lb mom and a sister who lied about an additional baby to get extra welfare who lived in a trailer park, and a brother who was in jail.

I think she wanted a better life for herself and to help get them out of their situation...

Cept you can take the trash out of the trailerpark and put a ribbon and perfume on it, but in the end all you have is trash.

I liked the movie
