Milk: Healthy or not?

I always thought that milk was healthy for you, but I got into an argument about this with my coworker. He claimed that humans were not meant to drink milk except right after child birth, and that cows are fed many growth hormones, many of which end up in the milk we drink. So I want to hear what ATOT thinks. Is milk healthy or not?

I don't know. i just know that it makes my rice chex, doughnuts, cookies and cake taste soo much better.

i personally do not think milk is that healthy either.
You can get all the nutrients in milk from other sources. Milk was the cause for my acne and i had no idea it was like that. once i stopped eating more than one serving per day, it stopped.

the ability to process lactose after weaning from breast milk is a genetic mutation.

however, milk is a great source of calcium and protein and you can easily find milk these days that is from cows that are not fed anything with hormones.

so while your friend is correct that we are not meant to digest milk when we're no longer newborns, his premise that milk is unhealthy is incorrect.

Typically you find those who say milk is bad are PETA nuts as well.

That aside, there is probably some truth that milk has some bad stuff in it (like everything you eat). However, the benefits far outweigh any downsides. It's an excellent source of calcium, among other things.

winner!

Very few mammals can tollerate milk after they are adults. Even many humans have trouble. Plus, milk is full of fat and has very little good about it.

Milk does have a touch of protein and a little calcium. And it is probably better for you than many other drinks people drink. Assuming of course you don't have problems with milk.

Conclusion: meh. It is neither significantly healthy nor unhealthy.

Your co-worker got this email, didn't he?

Anyways, I've had at least a glass of 2% milk every morning with breakfast since I was a child. This is actually probably one of my better eating habits.

I have a milk allergy, so whenever i tell people this, a typical reply i get is "oh, so you must eat pretty healthy?". but that mostly goes for other milk-containing, sometimes fatty products, like cheese, pizza, ice cream, many desserts, etc. i am pretty thin, actually.

LOL!
😛

Well, keep in mind that I am not opposed to all dairy products, just the drinking of straight milk, or eating fatty cream products like ice cream. Cultured products like cheese, yogurt, etc. are all very healthy.

🙂

..no biological reason to consume milk beyond puberty. Known risk enhancer for heart disease and prostate cancer in adults. Got Milk??
