Military

Looking to join the military for something computer networking related. I have been thinking about either Navy, Coast Guard, or Air Force. What does everyone recommend? What are the differences? Anything I should know?

I've heard Air Force is the best for technical work.

Same.

Air force will be your best bet, but the Army could definately use the skill set.
No garantee you would get it there though, everyone is infantry first, then their MOS.

are you looking for full time or part time work (like the guard)? The Army is the only branch that will guarantee your MOS (military occupational skill, aka military job).

go Navy!

are you smart? go Nuclear power

The Navy's Nuclear Field

Nuclear energy powers the Navy's submarines and most aircraft carriers at high speeds for years without refueling. Nuclear power is a challenging, attractive career field. It requires special, dedicated men and women with scientific and mathematical skills willing to train and work hard to achieve success.

The Navy's Nuclear Field program offers exceptional technical training in nuclear energy and nuclear propulsion to young, talented people who qualify. The training, some of the broadest and most comprehensive available anywhere, prepares young people to become experienced professionals in a high-tech field. The Navy's Nuclear Field program will help you build a foundation of technical knowledge and experience that can be valuable to you for many years to come.

not true, you can get garunteed jobs out of the air force. And i know the national guard is pretty much all garunteed jobs.

QFT!

my bro did it, they tried to make him a janitor.

finally got SATCOM via Air Force.

From my bro, most services have 'geeks' nailed as expendables...many recruiters are grunt types.

the navy loves geeks (at least the smart ones) for the Nuclear Power program

take the test, see if you can ace it

You need to take your ASVAB and see what you score before you'll know what jobs you qualify for. If you only do marginally, certain jobs will not be available to you.

Talk to a recruiter if you're serious.
