Military Status

I have a marine friend who is in boot-camp and he has thought about it all now and would like to switch to reserve status. Would this be allowed? He is about half-way through boot camp, if that makes any difference

Not usually without a hardship.

if he already signed up for active, he must complete his contract active time. then go reserve. if he would have signed up reserve, he could have changed over to acrtive easily.

fo course, if he really wants to, he can try...it be VERY hard though

Thank you for the answer, but why do they allow men to go one way but not the other?

Isn't it obvious that they want the maximum commitment? Besides, a lot of people get pretty disillusioned at times in boot camp and basic training and really question whether they made the right choice.

because reserve is just part time....so if you wanna go fulltime, your more than welcome, its like a backup job if you get in trouble..can't find work when your a reserveist. you can go active.

active is lock and key. you sign up, you have so much time, then your done or reup. if they let people go reserve from active when they wanted, people would job switch when it was convient for them.

The Air Force has a program called Palace Chase and Palace Front for moving to Gaurd and Reserve respectively. Your friend and his family may want to spend a little bit learning the Marine Corp and DoD regs. It can save you allot of money and some unpleasent surpises. As well as just making the whole military experiance easier all around.

find a new country.

He would probably have to take a pay cut, and maybe even pay back the difference in his earnings during Boot Camp.

Meh I guess its alot harder than this 🙂

But GL to him.
