Military Reserves

So I found out about the Space A travel deal and it motivated me to look into the military reserves (likely Air Force or Coast Guard so I don't go to Iraq). They pay you something like $2300 a year and you get free travel. Plus I plan on going to college so the benefits there are good.

A few questions. Do they drug test you in the reserves? Do you still go through the full boot camp? Are the benefits enough for me to join or should I have other reasons? Any other information welcome

1: if they want, probably yes
2: yes
3: your choice, but i really recommend against it. my brother signed up 3 days before sept 11 happened and he is scheduled to go to iraq early next year. is it worth risking your life for money? by the way, all devisions of the military go to war, coast guard and air force included.

1) Yes, you still have to go through regular basic training for the reserves.

2) Yes, random drug tests are very possible while in the reserves or national guard.

I don't see how you think by joining, you will avoid service in Iraq - or, any other country for that matter if a war were to break out. The military will send you where they need you - and if you have the right skills regardless of which branch or area you fall under.

Personally, I think it's a big committment for $2,300 per year. Keep in mind, that amount will actually be a bit more as you'll get activated for 2 weeks out of every year.
