thanks for all the replies. Ok, perhaps his story was true. It just seemed like a big waste of time and money to fly someone across the country, feed, house them, then send them back for a known medical condition a few days later.

I can't believe our government would waste money like that (ha ha)....

He probably just couldn't cut it, and fell back on the medical excuse.

you should observe the gov't employees here at NYC (police included). i'd say 85% of them are wasting money by sitting/standing around and shoot the breeze.

Some conditions are not detectable in the screening process--that's partly what Boot Camp is for. So was the guy heartbroken that he couldn't get in, or did he just puss-out at camp?

I thought he couldn't handle the physical demands, so when they bounced him he made up the story about the old medical condition. But perhaps it was a medical condition, or they used the medical condition as an excuse to get rid of him. Or maybe he was a bed wetter :)
