Buddy of mine is about 5 months into an 18 month Afghanistan deployment. I have asked him repeatedly what he needs/wants and he refuses to ask for anything. I am putting together a package for him but an not quite sure what to include. He eats pretty healthy so snacks aren't a great idea.

To those of you who have been deployed during war, what things did you like to see the most in your care packages?

I considered porn but wasn't sure if it would make it by the mail search. Can anyone confirm?

We shipped my brother a couple pounds of whole bean coffee when he was doing an Iraq tour. Another of the officers had received a coffee grinder so the coffee was a big hit.

Food and anything to relieve boredom (books, magazines, DVDs, etc.). Depending on where he's deployed, baby wipes are a good thing since showers are not always possible.

Use the official thread.

BUT, since you asked for suggestions: One guy we know asks for microwavable stuff. We got him some Betty Crocker instant brownies. Just add water and nuke.
You will find them in the same place as cake mix & stuff.
