is this a joke?

31 is a no go? Since when? The army is the lowest with a 40 minumim last I saw. Below that you need waivers down to 35 or so. I've never even met someone who got below a 35.

I took it to get out of class in HS, scored in the 90ish. The mechanics stuff killed me :( I am a chick and didn't drive then, so I didn't know what colors the different fluids in the car were suppose to be...

Didn't you have to take it in HS like the rest of us in our school.. (YES I KNOW YOU, do you know me!??!?)

Or does it expire?

Those shitters aren't going to scrub themselves. He would be getting pay and benefits commensurate with his rank and time in service. There are other people posting that they don't even have a job. Maybe this kid has something that they don't.

I'm terrible at the "easy" math questions like that but the rest of the test looks fun.

Back in my day they used GT scores - you took the ASVAB but they scored you with a GT score.

Max was 130, you needed like a 50 to get in the service and needed to score I think 100 to re-enlist. If you did not have 100 upon enlisting they sent you to school on weeknights while you were on active duty in the hoped you would test higher and then could re-enlist.

I was active duty '93 - '96.

Yeah, they still use GT scores to some effect.

38? i hope that is not on the same scale i had when i took it. i scored a 98. if it is have fun being a cook or mortuary services.

96 here. And I was the dumb one in ET A-school. Better invest in some Febreeze before you start cleaning out those tanks.
I got a much lower score but managed to get into Nuke ET school.
Failed out.
Chipped paint for 3 years.
Went to Advanced Electronics ET school and I was actually one of the smarter ones there.

That nuke training program is a sucker's game. I was accepted and probably would have passed the class as I was interning with a mechanical engineering firm for a year at that time doing pretty in-depth builds.

They get the flunkies that score decent and promise them the world.

I can't remember my exact score, I missed something like 2 questions on it though, i had them calling for years trying to recruit me through college.

Don't mean to burst your bubble but recruiters don't give a shit what program you go into. They don't have an individual quota by MOS.

True - but the Army needs bodies and once you have raised your right hand you are theirs! So you enlist to be a NukeTraining specialist which is a minimum 6yr enlistment - you FAIL out and then they transfer you to 88M training.

So now you are stuck with a 6yr enlistment in a job you could have been trained on for a 3yr enlistment.

In my day all the drop-outs went to 88M school.

I wouldn't say all, but a lot do end up there.

Navy recruiters used to get credit for 2 bodies when they got someone into the Navy Nuclear Power program, not sure if they are still doing that. but i was a "double" for my recruiter

Not sure of the specifics, but they still do for certain programs like nuke.

Never did have a chance. Was a straight A/B student, except for math. Is that a condition or something? lol.

Our whole class sat down to take it in the lunch room our Junior year.

Maybe you were out sick or something..

I remember questions about trucks and simple shape transformations...

Don't tell me you didn't get to meet Mr Dick Stankey peddling his lube too?

I graduated in 2002, I do not believe they offered it until later.

Are you saying that while you were all seated in a school cafeteria, someone was diverting your attention with an ASVAB and Transformers. Where, exactly, does 'Mr. Stankey' come in with his lube?

Did the cafeteria tables look like these? Where you seated or just sort of kneeling over the table?

My school didn't do that either. I don't think that's typical around the country.

Jason. You sat next to me at LSSU in a class or two.. lol..

A couple of your buddies names are 'Mike, Will'

I played ut2k3 in the LAN at the raskeller lab, We embarrassed all the other nerds but one.

I graduated the same year you did.

Who is this mystery person?!? You should be able to guess. It's weird finding you on anandtech.

Most of our class took the ASVAB together, I assumed it was all of us, I didn't realize you missed it.

You are making me question my teenage years in their entirety.

Dick Stanky was the best presenter I ever saw. He was peddling lube to HS students, it was for machining and metal work.

His name gaurenteed I would never forget who he was or what he was selling.

Haha, the recruiter at the MEPS at the time I shipped out showed me this sweet laserdisc of a guy in a tracked vehicle, working with a computer. It all looked really badass and high tech at the time. 13F? Sure, that looks awesome! It didn't take long for reality to set in. Get your rifle and your pack, we're going for a walk. :)
