hi guys, trying hard to squeeze some extra juice out of my current setup but i'm meeting with some problems. Overclocking my Intel 2.8C to 3.0 Ghz allows me to run prime 95 smoothly for more than 12 hours but causes artifacting when i run 3dmark 05. The only thing i've adjusted is the FSB, maintainig the PCI and AGP at 66 and 33mhz. The Cpu to Dram ratio is also maintained at the recommended 1:1 setting. No changes were made to any of the voltages cos i think that this is still a very modest overclock. Temperatures are fine as max load temp is only about 50celcius. i'm suspecting that the prob lies with my ram as i'm running 2 sticks of kingston valuram, one rated at cl2.5 the other at cl3.n the current timing is set to 2.5-3-3-8. any advice would be greatly appreciated guys :)

My specs:

CPU Type Intel Pentium 4HT, 2800 MHz (14 x 200)
Motherboard Name Abit IS7/IS7-E/IS7-G (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 4 DDR DIMM, Audio, LAN)
Motherboard Chipset Intel Springdale i865PE
Video Adapter Sapphire RADEON 9800 PRO (128 MB)

Thats weird, normally OCing a CPU doesn't cause artifacts, OCing the video card does. Hmm sorry I can't help you here.

If you loosen the timings on the RAM, do the artifacts go away? Have you ran any stress testers such as memtest or prime95?

i'm using a 400W stock power supply that came with my case. i'll go change the timings to 3-4-4-8 and see how it goes. thanks everyone :)

oh yes, i managed to run prime 95 without any errors for more than 12 hours. What would a reasonable overclock be for my configuration?

i loosened the timings to 3-4-4-8 and ran 3dmark 2005 with FSB of 215 and noticed artifacts. what now?

Sometimes on p4 boards you need to give the vagp a slight boost try 1.55-1.6v...It has been rumored to be a controller for vcore of the northbridge on many of those chipsets....It is safe and see if it helps....

Why dont you list he power supply as well.....

hey everyone, i changed my Cpu Dram ratio to 5:4 and i'm currently running my cpu at a FSB of 231(3.24Ghz) without artifacts. when i try hitting 3.3Ghz i get spontaneous reboots even though my temps are normal. question is , does the 440 mhz boost justify the compromise in CPU DRAM ratio in term of real world performance
