I know other roms have trouble with voicemail setting but what I understand mikfroyo is not supposed to have those issues. I can listen to my voicemail by holding 1 but my visual voicemail has trouble activating. Is this because I am on 4.4 and need to upgrade to 4.5/6? I am new to the evo scene and the xda thread said they have it working on this rom.

Any help would be appreciated. I have sent the voicemail to activate it and cleared the voicemail data but still not working. sprint wants me to wipe the phone but I am trying to avoid that.

I've never used the Mik roms (I use Fresh), but I would recommend upgrading to the latest release as a start.

I just posted the same thing in another thread...but why not let Google Voice handle your voicemail? I've never, ever had an issue with it, going all the way back to the G1.

And I'll post the same reply ;)

Sprint and GV have had issues integrating in the past (presumably this will be cleared up by the time the Nexus S 4G comes out). Some people are also uncomfortable with Google storing all their voicemail.

Hmm. Never been on Sprint, so I wouldn't know.

RE: Google storing voicemail...it's not like they don't have access to pretty much everything else. Where you go, who you e-mail, who you call, etc. It's also pretty simple to delete the voicemails. I don't see a big difference between your carrier storing voicemail, and google storing voicemail. My .02

Also...this seems to indicate that those integration changes mentioned alongside the Nexus S, are already live. I might be mistaken however.

I have no problem using google voice but how does this effect my call quality. Do I use google voice as opposed to actually cell tower calls? I tried google voice on bb tour before and had nothing but problems. My phone call would never go to voicemail properly.

If you guys say it is amazing I will try it but I do want to have great call quality.

I only use Google Voice for voicemail, not for making or receiving calls. Thus it doesn't have any effect on call quality.

thanks i keep trying to get it change from my original google voice number but it keeps telling me that I have to pay 20.00 to change. That does not sound right to me...

edit: Just read more from google help and apparently they have not opened the service to peopl who already have numbers with google voice.

There's no need to change your GV number. just log into the GV app, select do not use Google voice for calling, then select GV for voicemail provider. That's about all there is to it

I did that and it changed my voicemail number to the google voice number. Is that the way it is supposed to work?

Correct. This is transparent to people calling you. They'll get a standard "the google voice subscriber is not available, please leave a message" greeting, unless you record your own.

You just use the GV app to read/listen to the messages. You'll get status bar notifications, etc.
