 mikey.

see you in cooperstown (with a mets cap on - had to start controversey!)

Please keep this mature and refrain from the homosexual jokes, thanks.

Great to play, about as boring as golf to watch.

i used to think he was quite hot, besides a talented baseball player. :)

you really think he'll be nominated/inducted? i guess we'll find out in 2012.

I'd be a bit surprised if Piazza isn't (eventually) inducted. Maybe not on the first ballot, but someone that's a (I believe) 10-time All Star and one of the greatest hitting catchers in history, seems to deserve to be in there.

i agree. but thats like any sport. its far better to go out and play.

I don't get into baseball UNTIL the playoffs. though i do try to get tickets to Kane county cougars (minor legue) a few times a year.

I think he has a great chance at first ballot. A lot of players will not get a lot of votes due to the roid thing. he ahs been held clean, even though i think he used a little. That and his HR numbers for a catcher shoudl help as well.

i would be very suprised if he is a first ballot. i predict 2nd maybe (doubltfull) 3rd. But he is getting in.

He will be first ballot. He's the greatest hitting catcher in history. Unfortunately, he couldn't catch or throw a lick. If he transitioned to First base earlier in his career, he could have had a number of more great years.

A great career for a guy who was only drafted as a personal favor (Tommy Lasorda and Piazza's father were friends), and was the last player chosen in the '88 draft (round 60-something).

A lifetime .300+ average, 10+ time All-Star, and being the all-time leader in HRs at a position will get you into the HOF no problem.

I'd be shocked if he isn't a first ballot HOFer

I saw this today and my first thought was....

"He was still playing? For who?"

I thought that he retired (or at least should have) about 3 or 4 years ago.

Definitely my favorite baseball player of my generation also. I loved him as a Met and was sad when he left. I always thought he he wasn't as happy with the Mets as he was with the Dodgers, but here is what he said yesterday:

"But I have to say that my time with the Mets wouldn?t have been the same without the greatest fans in the world. One of the hardest moments of my career, was walking off the field at Shea Stadium and saying goodbye. My relationship with you made my time in New York the happiest of my career and for that, I will always be grateful"

QFT. First ballot absolutely. Absolutely. Absolutely.
What is wrong with people who think he won't be a first ballot inductee???

well he is going up against some big names. i guess it all depends on how the voters lean towards steroids abuse by some of the other players eligible (clemens, bonds, sosa).

Even though I hate the Dodgers, I will always remember Pizza as a Dodger, and he'll always be a Dodger. He's going into cooperstown w/ a Dodgers cap!

I totally agree with you, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Piazza was my favorite baseball player back in the early 90's. I remember when I first heard about him during his rookie year I would try to collect every card of his. I actually ended up with a lot of his cards but I should have sold them back then...now they are either not worth that much or impossible to sell.

McGuire is not in yet and those 3 are just as dirty if not more now.

He doesn't strike me as an "OMG obviously 1st ballot" type of player (like Jordan, Favre, Gretzky), but statistically his career stats are very solid, especially for a catcher. I could see him going 1st ballot, but also could see him being a 2nd or 3rd year. Just depends who else ends up on those years' ballots, I guess.

Just about any other position I would agree. But his stats for a catcher is why he is so well regarded. Catchers lose their knees and back faster then any other position. So for them to put up numbers like his and make it that long speaks a lot.

he's the only catcher with 300+ home runs, isn't he? 300 home runs for any position player is pretty damn good
