edit - Won't give them the crown if the Sox acquire Santana.

seriously. if the sox add santana to a roster with becket, matzusaka, wakefield, lester, papelbon, schilling (?), buckholtz, and the rest... no one will stand a chance.

If they land Santana, they would lose either Buchholz or Lester... But still, it would be horrible for the rest of baseball's chances of winning it all for the next 5-6 years... That being said, there is a reason they play the games...

I'd rather them land Santana than see the Yankees give up their top young pitching/centerfielder. The price for Santana is way too steep unless you are in desperate need of an ace. Neither the Yankees nor Red Sox need that, especially at the cost of their best young talent.

I'm hoping the Angels land Santana though 😉

for the red sox, losing coco crisp is perfectly fine seeing as we have ellsbury to fill CF nicely. Lester is only 4-5 years younger than santana not to mention how much better santana is. then it's probably another prospect or two. Not to say it won't hurt. But you pay for performance.

Guess what the Marlins payroll is now that these two have been dealt.

No peeking. Be reminded that every team receives 60mil. from MLB from revenue sharing.

isn't their highest paid player like 1.5 million/yr?

25 man roster, total payroll = $8 million

They never need to sell a ticket.

Thats why I say Loria is an embarrassment to MLB. I can't believe they let him buy a team after destroying the Expos.

Wow....

The Marlin are ridiculous. They wash, rinse, FIRESALE!!!!!!!! every few years. What a steal for the Tigers. I wish the Yankees had made a move on the DTrain; he probably could of been had for cheap and would have made a great 2-3 starter in their rotation with the young kids.

The Marlins are an absolute JOKE. How can MLB allow this to happen? They are getting nearly 4x their payroll in just revenue sharing alone. This doesnt even count advertising, profit from retail sales, tv agreements, parking, ticket sales, etc. I understand not overspending but having an entire team of players that combined make what most other players make in a year? Its criminal.

Imagine you are a fan of Miami sports right now. I'd want to crawl into a hole.

Marlins - Barely a AAA team now
Dolphins - 0-12 and not looking like they will get a win
Heat - 4-12 also hurting

That BLOWS
