I'm having a touch-sensitive migraine. I've gotten about 15 minutes of sleep. It started around 9pm. I should have gone to the store to get some Advil. Now I have to wait until 7am. Stupid store.

At least I found out that I'm not crazy. I was looking at migraines on wikipedia and found out that aspartame can trigger them. It does for me every time and people think I'm nuts when I tell them that.

-
Some people may develop migraines from consuming aspartame. In a University of Parkinson's-Florida study, the incidence of migraine doubled for the majority of participants when they took aspartame, and their headaches lasted longer and were marked by increased signs of shakiness and diminished vision. Headaches are the most common side effect cited by those who consume aspartame-containing products[

Yeah. I think I'm going to go throw up now. SOrry for ranting.

My migraines are particularly evil. I get major stroke symptoms / TIAs when I get a migraine.

Oh, I don't. That isn't what caused this one. I've tried aspartame about four times and it gave me a bad headache each time. That was enough to convince me that it wasn't a fluke. I may be jinxing myself, but I think this one is winding down. Let's hope.

There's no way I'm going into work today though.

Migraines are awful. I'm fortunate that I only get migraines about every 3 to 6 months. I know what my trigger is (very bright light, usually sunlight glare), so that helps to avoid them. When I get a migraine, I usually see visual aura about 10 minutes or so before the actual pain hits, and the migraine doesn't end until I vomit just about everything that's in my stomach. In between that time I'm hypersensitive to light and sensitive to sound, and have to lie down for a while. Sometimes the migraine lingers for a few days even after vomiting, though it's not constant and not as painful.

my trigger is MSG in foods. Everybody's different and everybody changes as they age... so don't think that just because you don't have allergies now, they won't develop later. I used to eat foods with MSG all the time, now... not so much.

No, it seemed like it was going away, but it's back.

Me too. I would rather die than have a migraine beacuse of MSG. I have become VERY knowledgable about what foods have it, what not to eat, where not to eat. I have been able to keep them down, but every so often, I get a very debilitating one and I am out for about two days.

OP, you should go to a neurologist or even a primary care physican to get real migraine meds. Advil, exedrin don't do anything for me. Good luck though.

I've had terrible migraine's since I was about 6, started smaller but in my early 20's they would be so bad I could hardly see or think, few times I couldn't even talk. Tried everything from low-dose anti-depressants to those 600$ prescriptions, nothing works, now I use about 3 T3's or a few muscle relaxants and it seems to hold me down until the pain subsides.

I agree though, a neurologist or even a neck therapist would help, the therapist way was a definite help for me.

Well, I've been reading on them and it could be cluster headaches. It feels like there's a nail through my skull right behind my left eye. Also, the top center of my head and my neck and shoulders hurt. Some stretching helped a little.

Advil usually does help, and I just got back from the store. Hopefully I'll be able to go to sleep once it kicks in.

I use prescription Zomig right as the symptom of visual auras start and the rest of the migraine feels suppressed. I was actually able to sit through a movie once because of the pill... good stuff.

I get stroke like symptoms as well. I feel completely disassociated from my arms, as if I'm staring at someone else's arm when really it's mine. I have no concept that it's connected to me if that makes sense. I also lose feeling in all my limbs. It put me in the ER two weeks ago because my migraine aborting medicine didn't work and the doctors had to give me 3 shots to kill it. They did all sorts of tests again and can't find any reason for it and they can't find anything 'wrong' with me.

I have a few triggers that I try to avoid.

I used to use Zomig but Maxalt (10mg) is my weapon of choice now.

Also, in response to the cluster headache thought... I was told by my dr. that more men get cluster headaches rather than migraines so that could very well be what it is!

Thanks for replying everyone. It's good to know that I'm not losing my mind. When I tell people about how the headaches come on and how they feel and what I think triggers them, they look at me like I'm crazy.

I'm going to make an appointment to talk to a doctor about this stuff. I've been living with it for too long.

OP, try rolling up a large damp wash cloth and put it into the microwave until it is almost too hot to touch. Put it over you eyes and forehead and relax this has worked for me.

Your preaching to the guy who been there, done that, and got the t-shirts to boot.
I have a constant 24/7 migrane that never goes away, and highly medicated for, and so far they say they cannot find the cause, or because IM on welfare dont give a shit and wish for me to die of what ever is causing it because it will be cheaper for them when Im dead. Im going with the latter ;) And because Im on the system I cant just go changing dosctors because it took me 6 months and a seizure to get the crappy nero doc I got.

For me I dont have the normal migraine like you and others get, sound doesnt make it worse, nor light, and it doesnt make me feel as though Im going to puke. But I have heard for people that do get those kinds that coffee, energy drinks, sugar substitute, and even your glasses if you wear them if dirty all the time, or slightly off the prescription will cause a migraine. Watch some tv shows, with flashing lights can cause it as well. The thing to do is try and remember what it was you were doing last when they started to come on, and the next time, as much as you hate pain, you need to o the exact same thing one more time. If you get a Migraine again after that, then you know the cause and you need to try to cut it out, or find a different way around it so that you wont get another one from that ever again.

Another  for Maxalt. It's one of the few out there that really works.

That's what I take now too.. shit is fucking expensive but totally worth it. I had to upgrade to it because Migrin stopped being effective for me and sent me to the hospital last time.
