Might get flamed for this but damn Honda...

There might be some sort of way of disabling it without disconnecting any hardware.

Some cars have a backdoor method of turning it off, in my Subaru, if I rapidly insert and remove the drivers seatbelt 20 times, it disables the chime.

Pretty silly I know but it works.

The logic that you only need to buckle your belt on short trips is completely bogus. Per mile driven, some research has found that you are 300% more likely to die at 35 MPH in the city than you are at 80 MPH on the highway. If you were going to be logical about it, you'd take your belt OFF on the highway and put in ON in the city (not that I recommend that, either). But you obviously aren't being logical about it. It only takes a second and the potential consequences of failing to put it on are catastrophic. Yet even with an annoying chime giving you an immediate consequence for failing to put it on, you still stubbornly fail to do so.

If you can find where the beep is coming from (it was a tiny surface mounted speaker on my sisters grand am) then you can nearly silence it by putting a few peices of tape over it. Sounds strange but it worked. You could still hear it lightly but much less annoying.

Or just disconnect the crappy speaker?

Its people like you, and posts like this that make me want to wear it even less...

Honestly if people decide that they don't want to do something, for whatever reason what business is it of yours?

I never said that you don't need to buckle up on short trips but I did say that I typically don't buckle up on short trips, that is my choice, that is my risk...if I get a ticket I get a ticket, if I get injured then I get injured.

not just honda, its every car make/model built today pretty much.

Mine does it through the actual speakers on the car 🙁

Mine, too, but you can control the volume of the "gong" (chime). I haven't since I always wear my seatbelt, so it might be possible the key-not-in-car (keyless start) chime can be controlled but not the seatbelt one.

whythe fuck are you guys even arguing about this shit ? just put the damn thing on. are you too fucking fat to fit the seatbelt around you?

Darwin will eventually take care of this.

Until then, either Honda's chiming or the effort to put on the belt will have their way with the OP. Seems fair.

Man this is rich, so who is worse, someone like myself that decides on their own what they are comfortable with...or someone like you who makes such an arrogant and dickheaded statement presuming that just because you feel a certain way everyone should feel that way...

Wonder if you also think everyone who rides a motorcycle without a helmet in states that allow for it are good contenders for darwin-esque correction.

But like I said, I saw it comming before I put up the post...amazing how many self richeous assholes there are that inhabit these forums.

Honestly? been driving for quite a while and seem to be doing just fine, heck I know plenty wearing seatbelts that have been worse off than I have been....you guys really need to climb down from that perch and accept that different strokes for different folks is a reality of this world.

And even still, if that is the case why do you care?...

If people such as myself want to take their lives in their own hands then that should be their right, they shouldn't be subjected to some pavlovian system that through annoyance compels them to do "the right" thing..the Saab just has a nice little red led that stays on all the time until you buckle up.

Protecting car occupants from the consequences of bad driving encourages bad driving.

And what if I lived in NH where it isn't mandated that you wear a seatbelt if you're over 18?

I hate the fact that the car will chime a few times if the seat belt isn't clicked in when you start the car. I wear my seatbelt 100% of the time, but 99.99% of the time I do not put my seatbelt on before starting the car, and honestly I don't need the car to remind me of what I already do.

It does not affect me whether you wear a seatbelt or not.

I've been wearing it all my life regardless of any law in place and I will continue to do so.

It's not always about your own driving, but what some other idiot on the road might do. That said, have you been in an accident without your seatbelt?

I want to be able to drink a coffee without the cup telling me it is hot, it is coffee it is supposd to be hot, I want to be able to get in a car and have it casually remind me for a short period of time what the right thing is to do, not annoy me over the long haul with chinese water torture esque tactics

And yes I have been in an accident without my seatbelt, I did not go through my windshield and I was a dumbass for causing it when I was a teenager.

I am not saying I want to go drifting around my neighboorhood without a seatbelt, just that I hate it how people have to be herded like sheep into doing things...or that companies are so compelled out of fear of lawsuit that they make these annoyances mandatory.

Actually, it's the lawmakers that make it mandatory. Car companies don't like to spend more than they have to in a car unless it's a profit centre.

Yeah, you should stop bowing to the man and start going nude all the time, too.

Although, the lack of a reminder would add a bit of bleach to the gene pool... Hmm....

this is great, so because I dislike a safety annoyance then the argument is a wash...pretty sad state of affairs when we need devices such as this.

When you next pop down to the local store and a truck hits you, not the other way around, you'll be wishing you used a belt.

Look, we're not being self righteous ass hats, we are trying to help you out. To prevent you from harm. Common knowledge has proved that belts are safer than no belts, so why fight it in the name of your personal freedoms? You must surely know that no one will give a hot-shit if you use one or not, but you should because it is the best thing to do. No one will think less of you and I'm pretty sure you'll still have a pair of testicles at the end of the journey. It's not a 'pussy' thing to do, it's just common sense.

I should have quit way up at the top as I knew this was comming from the start...but I still wanted to bitch about the stupid warning as I feel it is just that, stupid...like I said, I am fine with what 99% of the companies are doing out there with a 30 second warning or an alarm that can be disabled either by the factory or by the user if they desire...I can disable the warning in my Saab but haven't bothered even though we have owned the car for three years as it isn't that bad...

But had I known the Honda had this "feature" I probabily wouldn't have purchased it...love the car, know that I should wear my belt even if I am just moving the car over a space in my complex or down the block to my local grocery store, but still there are times when I don't bother because I grew up in a time when it wasn't obviously as big of a deal as it is now.

Newsflash again! Every car has this, even my 04 truck has this. Beeps like crazy when yuo start it without the belt, then goes off like crazy every minute you drive without it. Just wear the belt, yes for extremely short trips too.

And PS, I really don't give a damn if you die in an accident or not, but see what tees me off is if you go flying out your windshield and your family wanting to sue me for your hospital bills. Wear your belt and I won't have to pay as much if anything.
