So my wife and I bought an 08 Accord EXL in addition to our Saab 92X, my old Contour SVT finally got traded in...and the Accord is nice but the seatbelt warning chime really is driving me insane...now I like the fact that it encourages me to wear a belt on a long trip, but for short jaunts down the street I find it nothing but annoying...and whats worse is there is absolutely no way to disable it.

Sorry but that is my rant...I know that wearing seatbelts is the safe thing, but I also miss the days of old when a car either didn't warn you or did so only for a second or two and then left you alone.

you could go to a junkyard, get the same seatbelt clip, and plug it in. you could go thru the windshield, too.

edit:
yes, the new chimes are as annoying as hell

Just buckle your darn seatbelt. Illegal to drive without it on anyway, and not the safest thing to do.

So, a car manufacturer gets the blame because you don't want to follow the law, a law that could potentially saves your life. Way to go

Yea it's annoying for the short trips but it's worth it over all, I personally like the feature since I don't always have to remind my passenger to buckle up, my car does it for me :)

His insurance company will remind him to wear it when they refuse to cover his injuries...

the windshield, the law, how simple it is..

like I said, I knew I would take heat for this because so many love to just "do the right thing" or at least tell others to do it as often as they can, but being honest with myself and others I can say that it is annoying and I prefer people make decisions on their own rather than being forced to do something because manufacturers install the most annoying deterrant into their cars.

Only for the front seat though right? I haven't had anyone sit in the back

Well, I want you to wear a seatbelt primarily to keep you in the proper position to control your car so you don't hit me.

Harnesses maybe, but seatbelts do not do this.

Sure they do, imo.

Not in a violent manuever certainly, but they do help prevent a minor problem from becoming a major one, imo.

You are easily thrown around when you're not restrained at all.

err, without the seatbelt, if you get into an accident, the airbag will kill you.

Only in a violent maneuver do your seat belts lock...if you are finding yourself restrained outside of them then there may be problems with your belts.

My moron cousin has this car. He leaves his belt permanently buckled and sits on top of it.

I'm glad my car only beeps until I throw it in gear.

And yes, I wear my seatbelt all the time. But if we have to swap cars around in the driveway or run up the street for gas, the beeping would be annoying as hell lol.

In all the cars I have ever owned, the belts have locked with moderate braking.

In many cars, they locked quite easily, to the point of irritation sometimes. Causing me to have to lean back to release the tension to unlock them.

Like?

The contour was fine just starting to age and I didn't want to pay to keep it up, needed more AC work, new brakes, paint was starting to go, interior falling apart, and a few other things.

The Saab is fine

This is my issue, for just swapping in the driveway it isn't bad, but when I just go down the street to get gas or a few groceries....then it is annoying

There's a wire running up to the latch...there's a few threads on V6P.net on how to disable it. Seriously though, just buckle your damn seatbelt or turn up the radio.

I have heard that this messes with the airbag system....

It isn't enough for me to do anything about it, just annoying how people need this type of a thing, kinda like the hot coffee labels...
