I'm thinking about buying a new car, and one of the cars I'm looking at doesn't have ABS as an option.

I've never driven a car that doesn't have ABS before, is it important to have ABS? I live in northern NJ really close to NYC, but may move to central NJ.

It depends on your preferences I guess, and I also don't know how that would work in the north, where you guys actually get snow. :p Personally I wouldn't bother buying a car without ABS now that I've got one with it...

if you have snow in winter, it's a good idea. it really helps to stop the car on those icy roads.

It's possible it can help, but remember to not put yourself in a situation where you would need that driver assist in the first place!

A lot of new cars come with traction control if you pick up ABS so you might as well.

I have/had 1 mecury grand marquis and 2 cougars (the old V8's) with abs and traction control for over 10 years, only a few minor problems, and it didn't cost much to fix. well worth having. note: two of these cars had/have over 170,000 miles on them

ps: I live in WI/MN . yes my loaded 94 grand marqius has 179,000 miles on it, it goes down the road like a new car almost

I guess you could think about how many times you stood on the brakes and felt the ABS kick in. The ABS on my car broke about three years ago and I never got it fixed, and never missed it.

If the car has that then it has abs. It uses the abs to apply the brake to the slipping wheel :p (I believe this is what I was tought)
Just another bs option that wears your pads quicker and cost more for repairs :)
