Might be a crazy question...can I open a vitamin pill and put the powder in water...

Basically, can I open a vitamin b6 or b12 pill and put whatever is contained inside in a glass of water and just drink it instead of swallowing the pill? Does this cause any sort of issue?

Thanks for any help.

Sure. I would recommend mixing it with a bit of apple sauce though. The powder might stick to your throat or something if its in water.

I take an herbal supplement and the bottle even recommends breaking open the capsule and making tea with it.

The capsule is just going to dissolve away within 30 seconds of being in his stomach. Its not like its a time release tablet.
I wouldn't take a vitamin capsule on an empty stomach, either; unless I wanted to vomit soon afterward.

Right, but we're talking about swallowing the capsule whole vs opening the capsule and mixing the powder with water.

There is no difference.

Problem is, I just realized, it's not a capsule. It's a small vitamin B pill. So it would have to be crushed into the powder form...that sounds really drug addict like hah...but is there a difference between capsule powder and crushing this into powder and putting in water?

Well, a standard tablet will dissolve over a period of time. Crushing it up makes the contents available to your body at a faster rate. Whether or not that matters is a different question.

Hmm...if not exceeding the max daily suggested limit maybe won't be an issue even if its digested quicker?

Is it B-12? I know those little 5 hour energy drinks are basically just massive amounts of B-12 in a little liquid shot.

I am always surprised by that. I mean, nobody I've ever met who has trouble with pills has trouble swallowing food. In fact, the one I can think of is probably 100 pounds overweight.

I've been sick the last week and I had actually trouble swallowing pills (probably due to my inflamed throat). I had to resort to ye olde "smash it up and mix it into applesauce" technique a few times.

Nonetheless, there is a small percentage of adults that have problems with pill swallowing.

Not at all...can also exchange the contents with crystal meth for amazing effects....
