Midwesterners: Severe weather this evening!

A severe storm just passed over my town and is going through the Indy metro area. I was upstairs and thought a tornado was hitting due to the sound and the whole house shaking.

I went downstairs in time to see my hot tub cover ripped off and the lift (a metal pipe) snapped like a twig on both sides. 😱

Brother was on his way home and stopped and helped me put the cover back on. The lift is a total loss but the cover looks fine. I'll get a better look in the morning.

We were just under a tornado warning until about 3 minutes ago. Some rain, not too much wind, although there were a couple of gusts, and a few flashes of lightning. Uneventful - and that's the way I like it.

edit: oh look, now a severe storm watch until 8pm, with another tornado watch to the SW heading our way.

Sounds like the leading edge passed sound of you, or else it had started to dissipate by the time it got there.
The west face of my apartment got pressure-washed and bead-blasted today, thanks to crazy winds, very heavy rain, and small hail. That first storm, carrying the tornado warning, was reported to be moving through at 70mph. Despite there being very little thunder, it was still a loud storm. I'm glad there wasn't any tornado, as I couldn't see anything farther than the houses on the other side of the street.

The power outage of course was last night, when the winds were gusting at 20-25mph. 😵
Today, the power didn't give so much as a single flicker.

i'm in eastern IN. windy, some rain and thunder but its not all crazy or nothing...yet anyway.

We're slightly worried about 60mph winds. I have one of those big garage-in-a-box things for storing my boat (with the prop at one end & the tongue of the trailer on the other end, it's too long for our regular garage.) It blew away once before I remembered that I hadn't fastened it down after moving it. I have it anchored - t-posts pounded about 3 feet into the ground & garage fastened to those, but if the wind gets under it... it'll yank those posts right out of the ground.

Looks like Indy and south got nailed the hardest. I am about 15 miles SW of the city and got nailed. I went outside with a flashlight and didn't see any obvious damage to the house but I'll have to take a better look tomorrow.

actually i think its done in my area. not raining or anything. must have just got the far edge of it.

East bound -- it has now left the Indy metro area and is near the Ohio border. ATers in Dayton and Cincy, get ready!

It hit us around mid-afternoon but it seemed much milder in comparison. Just a torrential downpour but it moved on quickly. A long storm front though.

There are many things I miss about Minnesota but the winters are not among them.
Of course, I think anyone that cant handle 2 feet of snow is a wuss.

Minot, ND here.

Checked the weather last night at 6pm. 20% chance of snow. Woke up this morning at 6am. 6" of snow on the roof of my car.

The tires on the civic spin round and round...

It hit directly over us last night.
The news told us to seek shelter in the basement, but right as they said that, the doppler updated and it was already past us.
gj news... you might want to warn people AHEAD of the storm.

Nice!! I wish we were getting some right now.

My supt. was talking about how you guys were supposedly getting a storm but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

Now, maybe you guys can give me some advice:

I drive a 2001 Civic EX Coupe. I have reasonably new All-Season tires that are probably 8k miles old at this point. I don't feel the need to buy winter tires because I will be moving to Virginia at the end of the year and they won't be needed there.

Will I need chains for my car at some point (leaning towards yes if this morning is any indicator), and is there a particular brand/make that you'd recommend?

Didn't you hear people were being advised to seek shelter at Lucas Oil Stadium? Experts all agreed there was no chance of a touchdown there🙂
