Black Friday sales have, and always will be, for idiots only. They are not worth the hassle and the crowds.

Here endth the lesson.

The local Lowe's nearby already has the black friday items displayed, despite being clearly tagged "do not display till Nov 25th for Black Friday". 😵

they should keep most of it online as it is less overhead for the stores... doesn't THAT mean more profit?

I only do online for BF. I waited once a few years back and all I got was junk that I only half-wanted.

The prevailing thought a few years ago was you get them into the store with the big sales (which sometimes involved a negative margin item) and made up for it in other products people bought when they were there shopping/waiting. It was generally pretty successful and I would imagine this is still pretty much the case

wasn't directing that at you, just people in general. I guess it's a pet peeve of mine. We start pushing holiday stuff very early; I just don't think it's necessarily a new phenomenon, or that it's getting earlier every year.

I do not think it is "new" per se, but I do believe that things are creeping earlier and earlier.

The internet killed what Black Friday was meant to be. Now only the "Devils" go in Black Friday, get exactly what they want and leave the store.

It's just the nature of competition. Go back 50 years to main street America, Store A is now open till 4:30 pm? That's crazy! Well he's getting all of those customers, so I'm going to one up him and stay open until 5! It's unavoidable. The only thing you can do is control your own habits. Which is why I won't go anywhere on BF and definitely not Thanksgiving. To hell with this consumer culture we have.

I actually like the midnight openings if I were going to go out. I'd rather go out at midnight and stay up until 3-4, then wake up at 2:30 AM and take a nap at 8 AM.

I mostly get the dirt cheap blu rays anyway. I expect most of those to be on Amazon sometime on Thanksgiving day just because they now have to start their sales before the other sales start that night. I may try to get a couple special deals, but nothing really interests me a lot in the ads right now. I'd hope for a good Fry's ad, but they've taken the last couple Black Fridays off.

I agree, it's ridiculous. The sad part is that you know there are people out there that will skip having thanksgiving dinner so they could be first in line for the shitty $99 laptop at BB.

There are people ALREADY in line starting today (was on news) so they can get a shitty laptop. More than 6 full days in line? Hell, how about go to work, make more money and then stay at home in warm bed and buy much nicer laptop online?

WTF.

I saw on the local news today about a young couple that is already camping out at their local BB, St. Peterburgs FL. She said she was looking for a TV.

What the heck, several days before the sale?

Maybe she should spend those days working to earn the difference instead?
