Midiland 8200 vs Klipsch 4.2

my promedia v.2-400's are dead, so when i called in the warranty on them they offered i could get a replacement or if i wanted to, upgrade them for an extra $50 to the 4.1 Preamp (making it $300 total value). I noticed Klipsch has a special sale right now to get the Klipsch 4.2 setup for $300, and was wondering if I should upgrade to that instead (since i'm assuming the 4.2 has everything the 4.1 has, plus an extra sub).

however i don't play games anymore so i'd really like a better midrange for dvds and music- so i'm leaning toward selling the new promedias i get for a Midiland 8200 system. which would be a better choice in the end then, the Midiland 8200 or the Klipsch 4.2? i'm leaning towards the midilands mainly because of the better midrange, however i hear the 4.1 (and thus the 4.2) have a better midrange through the new preamp. not to mention i'm really looking into a 5.1 system, and thus the 8200. The v.2-400s i had already has massive bass- i don't think i'd really need an extra sub but if the system improvement is really that great it may just blow the 8200 away. any comments from anyone that knows about either system? guess i'm just rambling at this point =D thanks

i just bought a set of the promedia 4.2 they're nice. i think u should go with those because i considered buying the midilands also but after hearing the 4.2s...man.....forget about midilands =)

btw. how long have u had ur 2.4? why is it dead

Dude, I've had my Midiland 8200s for awhile now and I LOVE THEM! I was facing the same decision as you but I went with the Midilands. My MAIN reason for getting them was the 5.1 AC-3 surround. Watching the Matrix or any other good 5.1 movie is FREAKIN' AWESOME! Once you go 5.1 you won't go back. The Klipsch speakers are good but I'll take my Midialnds with 5.1 over them ANY DAY.

Get the v2 400s with the upgraded preamp. The 4.2 is a complete gimmick. There is absolutely no reason you would/should need a second sub as long as your sub is placed in the right spot. Infact having two and balancing them properly is going to be even worse.

i disagree. v2.400 have no midrange whatsoever! and for the subs, it's 260watts in the 4.2 system compared to 160watts in the v2400/4.1

Are they offering you v.2-400s with an upgraded pre-amp or 4.1s?

Thorin is 100% right, the 4.2 is a total gimmick. Low Frequency sound is non-directional to the human ear. You are not suppose to be able to directionalize bass, having a second sub is pointless. Not to mention that the sats have less power than the 4.1 sats.

Big deal....the Video Logic Sirocco Crossfires have a 40watt sub, it edges out the v.2-400s in loudness and destroys them in quality.


You are right though, the v.2-400s have no midrange at all....even with the upgraded preamp they aren't as good as the 4.1s or 2.1s.

what the hell? did i say they were quality better quality, did i even compare them to other brands? i was merely comparing 4.2's to the other promedia's. it's pointless to even bring up that the xfires have a 40watt sub. yeah, the drivers are more efficient, so what? i'm not even comparing them to other speakers. i was comparing the 4.2's to the v2-400's, and the 4.2 have more bass (COMPARED TO THE V.2-400's, I'M NOT COMPARING THEM TO OTHER SPEAKERS) hell, i don't even like klipsch's....i've owned v2400 and then the 4.1's. the v2-400 were just bad. the 4.1's improved on the midrange problem a little bit, but was still doomed with the bright highs, BOOMY inaccurate bass, and dark spot in the low-mids. sold them both and moved on to a better system, and i assure you that the speakers i have now have better sound quality than the videologics. (read last month's issue of stereophile magazine and you'll see them on the cover.)
