Midiland 8200.. How are these? Please give me incite

Hi i have a pair of Labtec pulse speakers right now but want a bigger setup. I can get the midiland 8200's fpr $234 including shipping.Is this a good deal. This will go in my system which has a X-gamer 5.1 card in it. The system will be in a dorm in drexal. Anyway, if im spending over 200, how are these speakers. I get mixed reviews. Some people said these arnt gaming speakers, which is what i need them for. I know Klipsch's are good but there too expensive. Anybody have a pair and can give some incite? Any other altenatives?

The 8200s don't have 4 or 5.1 analog inputs.

They are either 5.1 Dolby Digital or 2 channel.

For gaming you want 4 or 5.1 discrete channel (not encoded), so the 8200s aren't ideal. They are DVDing/Music speakers mainly.
You can play games in 2 channel just fine as I do. But you don't get the effect of 3D audio like you do with proper rears.

I'd go for the BA4800 as well. Should be around $140-150.
Very nice speakers for the price, and 4 discrete inputs so they will be good for games. Definately good music speakers also.
Good for DVDs if you have a software player to downmix to 4 channel for, but not so hot if you only have 2 channel output, becuase they don't have a Dolby Decoder.

the 8200s can be used in 5.1 speaker analog, as i belive each channel comes w/ regular stereo mini-jack plugs, otherwise u could use a mono rca to mono stereo mini-jack adapter...

but anyway, the midi 7100s are still my fav for the money...regardless of the ba4800s rave reviews...
why get them when u could get a decoder, remote, and center channel for roughly the same price, and putting out, IMO, near quality (sats + sub)

How can you use the 8200 in a 5.1 analog connector?

It uses an ADS2000 as it's input/control module, and the ADS2000 does not have 5.1 or even 4 analog inputs.
It has 2 channel analogs, Coax and Optical for input choices.

huh?...u don't have to plug them into the ADS2000 if your sound card supports 3 separate analog-ins.

How do you connect your soundcard to it?
It uses some weird DIN connector for input to the Amp does it not?

u use this:

3.5mm mono jack to mono RCA jack.

whoops, that's 3.5mm to mini-stereo jack

it requires the first to plug into the coax on the SB-live, so it doesn't use the SB DIN connector.

 

if you go to Midiland.com they have a Intelli cable that can be used to plug the speakers into the Live card. They bypass the Decoder. How do these sound for gaming, say quake 3. I want to be able to here gunshots behind me and explosions all around or feel like im in a jungle. Do these speakers do it or do uy have any recommendations. Im not spending over $234. Also with the 8200's i get a surround sound system for my dvd play and tv. This seems like a great package.

I have the 7100s on a Hercules XP and they sound great. I realy like the box the fits in a drivebay. You should be able to find them for cheaper then the 8200s. Just a thought.
