Hey everyone,

So I've got several pieces of equipment:

Custom Windows XP PC with Delta 1010LT
KRK Rokit 8 near field monitors, and SP10S sub
2 MIDI devices - a Roland HandSonic 10 and a Yamaha PSR-240 (basic MIDI keyboard).

I've got things wired like this:

Keyboard -> Handsonic -> Computer, and I am getting signals in my MIDI applications (Reason and Battery) from the Handsonic, but not from the keyboard. If I switch the layout to:

Handsonic -> Keyboard -> Computer, then the opposite happens, and I only get signal from the keyboard.

I'm assuming there's something going on here with MIDI channels, and obviously the device closest to my PC is taking priority. I looked through the manuals of both devices and found their MIDI tables, but they don't have any information regarding changing MIDI channels.

Advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm just getting started with some serious equipment after living in the basic world of Reason and an M-Audio Oxygen8 keyboard for a long time. I'm ready to break free!

Thanks in advance

I think you're going to have to purchase a multiple MIDI input device.

It's been a while since I messed with any MIDI setup. I configured my studio stuff about two years ago and I have had no reason to move or reconfigure it since.

Another option is to configure the keyboard to transmit on Channel 1 (for example). Connect the MIDI OUT of the keyboard to the MIDI THRU of the HandSonic, then the Handsonics's MIDI OUT to your PC. You'll then configure the Handsonic to communicate on Channel 2. That should allow each device to transmit to the PC and your sequencer, but the sequencer won't be able to communicate to each of the devices.

Interesting. Not sure the handsonic has midi through. They both have midi in and out, but not through. Might have to get another midi adapter.

Then you should pick up something like this.

I use that in my studio with two keyboards. You plug the IN/OUTs of each MIDI device into the 2x2 and then connect the 2x2 to your PC/sequencer via a USB cable. It works flawlessly for my setup (Sonar 4 PE with a Korg KARMA and Roland JP8000). I'm also using a DELTA 1010 which leaves an extra MIDI IN/OUT on the rack unit in case I ever need to hook up another MIDI device.
