Midgets and the mentally retarded. Those are two groups of people that society hasn't yet deemed it wrong to make fun of.

Everything else is gone. You can't talk bad about blacks, Jews, women, gays, or the blind and deaf. Still, you'll see people badmouthing midgets on prime-time tv and everyone calls each other retards as an insult.

Not that I'm not one of these people who does it. I'm just wondering how society picks and chooses what differences are taboo and which aren't.

It all depends on who you are talking to. I myself have alot of mentally retarded people in my family, so I understand that they are human, just like us. And I can see the beauty they have to offer the world, and the kind hearts they have that so many so called &quot;normal&quot; people do not. But alot of people just think they are something to laugh at and belittle, because they don't comprehend that they have feelings. As for midgets, why make fun of someone who cannot help what they are? It's pretty bad society has to decide for people whats ok to joke about and whats not. Seems to me that should be pretty clear to people without any help.....
