Trying to pick a decent video card, dont do alot of power gaming.
New to video cards so if its a stupid ? - oh well!

Are these two even comparable:

BFG Technologies Asylum GeForce4 Ti 4200 64 MB -- $65.00
Nvidia 9600xt - $99.00 (after 100 rebate)

Which to get, or are there better alternatives

Thanks

Nvidia doesn't make 9600xts, or any ATI radeon cards. :)

Between the 2 choices, I'll take 9600XT, as it can run DX9 games decently at mid resolutions and you can enable playable AA/AF in older games, both of which you cannot do with the Ti4200.

But I'm sure you can get a better deal if you looked hard enough in FS/FT or Ebay.

I would take an Ati 9600XT over the nVidia Ti4200 anyday. The Ati 9600XT has DX9 support.

Here is one in our very own AT Forum for sale :

According to anandtech you should pick the game you like the most, and look at the benchmarks for that game. So...what game(s) do you play the most. I was researching this stuff for several days now, and I have found that anandtech has some excellent reviews for older games/video cards.

I would take that BFG Ti4200 for $65 just because it's cheaper, and I hate MIR. That 9600XT is going to set you back >$200 after taxes upfront.

If you can deal with rebates then the 9600XT is the better buy.

If you decide on this card, you might also consider that Buy.com has refurbed BFG 128MB Ti4200SE's for $55 (shipped free). I got one for my wife's PC but then I found out Ti4200s are hell in KT133 motherboards (reboots PC with bluescreen during DirectX games)

The SE's are 8X AGP (like that matters), and the RAM speed seems to be the same as the old 128MB ti4200s - Samsung chips...the 64MB Ti4200s are clocked a little faster (better ram).
