Middle-clicking links now treating them as pop-ups.

Maybe it's a Chrome issue, but it is only happening on Anandtech. In the past I could middle-click and of the links here (for a thread, post, whatever) and it would open as a new tab. Now when I try to do it Chrome thinks it is a pop-up and the pop-up blocker prevents it. If I click it a couple more times it will eventually open as a new tab, but it's annoying and time consuming.

Someone else posted they were having the same issue: http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=37203301&postcount=3879

Any ideas on what could be causing this? I could not find a resolution by Googling.

I just enabled that option on my MyIE2 to test it and it does seem to work ok..... (I middle clicked the link you posted and it opened in a new tab)

Have you tried to disable MIDDLE CLICK options and then re-enable it buddy?

I'm using Chrome and have pop-ups disabled and middle-clicking works for me.

Hmm, looked around and could not figure out how to do this. :hmm:

Well that's disconcerting.

Investigating.

Is this happening for any links to AT forum pages, or just outside vendors? I have only been able to reproduce it on the latter so far.

It's happening to me as well whenever I try to middle click a thread. Only on this forum so far. I have to click it twice to bypass the popup blocker.

It happens on first load of the page. So:

Page loads --> middle-click a link --> "pop-up" blocked
Middle click again --> works (though sometimes having to middle click twice)

Here are examples of it happening on forum navigation links / buttons:

Example 1 (middle clicking username):

Example 2 (middle click "New Thread"):

Example 3 (illustrates it working fine in middle clicking thread link, then refresh the page to simulate page load / reload, middle click thread link again and get blocked)

I don't think i've ever had the issue with links going to outside pages.

within the forums themselves, however, i find most of the links/buttons show the issue but there are a few that work with no problem so that might help narrow it down.

These do not have the middle-click problem (never blocked, never have to click twice):

-the post numbers (e.g. http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=23876644&postcount=3 )

-Post Quick Reply (below quick reply box)

-Go Advanced (below quick reply box)

-The four links in the little "Posting Rules" box ('BB code', 'Smilies', 'IMG', 'Forum Rules')

Yeah, I have no problem with outside pages, it's only threads/pages within Anandtech causing issues.

I think this may be related:
Yesterday I was able to go through a thread CTRL-clicking the quote button on every post I wanted to reply to and they would open in a new tab as I continued reading the page. Today, I can no longer do that. The tab takes focus away from the tab I am reading in no-matter-what. This is over-riding the way the browser is supposed to handle these links.

How are we looking today, guys? I've gone through the forums and I haven't been able to trigger the issue. The script we know to have caused the issue has been tamed.

Terrible. You can't middle-click on a laptop. CTRL-clicking is supposed to do the same thing, though it never has worked the same way when clicking "Search."

I just went to my UserCP and started CTRL-clicking the arrows that are supposed to open each subscribed thread in a new tab at the first unread post but each and every tab stole focus and required me to click my UserCP tab again. Something you are doing is breaking browser functions in Chrome. I can still long-press to open a tab in the background in iOS but I no longer have that option in Chrome. This is a serious usability flaw. It also affects me when I go through a thread and CTRL-click "Quote" for each post I might want to respond to. It's better than multi-quote because it supports more posts and I don't have to go back and find the post if I decide against it (continue reading and see that someone else already said what I wanted to say, for example).

Right-click and "Open in new tab" works, but that is extremely tedious when you are going down the list and don't have a mouse. Please fix this!

I'm still experiencing the issue... Ctrl + Click and middle click result in a "Pop Up Blocked" notification in Chrome 40.0.2214.111 with ABP.

Thanks guys.

I'm still looking into the matter. However there isn't any funky scripting going on right now, so it's not immediately obvious what the problem is. Chrome just doesn't seem to like the forums right now.

Same issue here, but looks like it's being dealt with at this point.

Whatever changed around that time has made browsing on iOS devices absolutely horrible.

Constantly causing the crash message. My iPhone 6 Plus. My iPad mini 2. My brother's iPhone 6 Plus. They all do it. Pages are glitchy and unresponsive. Driving me INSAAAAAAAAAANE!

If indeed it's Chrome's pop-up blocker preventing that behavior, can't you just whitelist Anandtech forums in Chrome to allow pop-ups? Looks like I did that some time ago, although I don't recall why.

Settings > Advanced > Privacy / Content settings... > Pop-ups / Manage exceptions...

Enter the following
Code:
[*.]forums.anandtech.com
