If indeed it's Chrome's pop-up blocker preventing that behavior, can't you just whitelist Anandtech forums in Chrome to allow pop-ups? Looks like I did that some time ago, although I don't recall why.

Settings > Advanced > Privacy / Content settings... > Pop-ups / Manage exceptions...

Enter the following
Code:
[*.]forums.anandtech.com

.
Yes, but it still causes the issue where they steal focus and do not open in the background. I can no longer open a ton of tabs and work my way through them.

Thanks, Obama.

I don't have a middle mouse button, but you say you're using Ctrl-Click? Once I add the pop-up exception, it works for me in Chrome. Just tried it on two different computers. The links open in new tabs without gaining focus.

They steal focus for me. If I middle-click on the same link a second time, it does not steal focus, but the first time it definitely does. Thanks for trying though.

Thanks for trying though.

Trying and succeeding on two different systems. Two different versions of Windows (XP and Win7) and two versions of Chrome.

I assume you've added the exception mentioned above to the pop-up blocker. Have you also tried with all extensions disabled?

I did that previously and it did not fix the issue for me.

They aren't being blocked. They are stealing focus. When I CTRL+click they are supposed to open in a background tab and load while I continue reading the page I am on but, instead, the tab becomes active/focused and the browser switches to it.

Yep. I do it a couple more times though and it will steal focus again. It's like the first and every third tab generated off the same link or something weird like that.

Hmmmm your blocker SHOULD NOT be blocking it Keith because you are requesting it!! (Its not like an unsolicted popup)

Very strange....... You dont have any options in your BROWSER OPTIONS (Or about:config) to disable middle click then re-enable huh?? (Im thinking its messed up somehow)

Hmm, well I can't find anything. I will do a more detailed look when I get home though.

Just realized that it does this from the main page too. I tried to open a couple Pipeline stories in new tabs and they stole focus.

Can you guys setup your tabs so they DO NOT STEAL FOCUS or do they steal focus straight away when opened??

Like with MyIE2 I can set the "new tabs" to either take focus or just open next to current tab.. (I have it set to just open (Dont become active until I goto it))

They are set up that way but something the site is doing is overriding that. It's seriously screwing up things. I can no longer skim the main page and open each story I want to see in a new tab because I am taken away the moment I click the first link. Right-clicking and opening in a new tab still works properly but it takes even more effort on a touch pad than switching back and forth. Everything about Anandtech is annoying to me now and I may just chose to give up and stop coming here if this isn't fixed. It's really THAT broken.

Yeah, my Chrome's middle-click opens new tabs, but no longer in the background like every other site, but in the foreground. Only here.
