Having never seen either show in question... what I've gathered from the advertisments the whole premise of these shows was the womens struggle with moving past their sexual prime. i.e. the desire to still be considered sexy. So, it could explain some of their seemingly extreme behavior for women of their age.
With that said I would like to state for the record that I LOVE the sophisticated classy woman, and if that comes in the body of a 20 yr. old female or a 40 yr. old female so be it.

Heh....you've got a lot to learn kid. Intelligence has nothing to do with having children. It might deal with desire and responsibility but to say that someone who is 22 with a child is less intelligent than someone who doesn't have a child.....that's total BS. I would have to say that someone who would make such a statement as that would be the one who needed the intelligence test. If you're single, perhaps there is a reason for it.....
Obviously you know nothing about social issues.
It's a common fact that having children at a young age and having children out of wedlock correlate heavily with intelligence, educational background, drug use, and a number of other factors.
Unless you're one of those people who "knows a girl" and uses that to assume about the majority.

I would think that having children at a young age or out of wedlock has more of a correlation to responsibility than any of those things. If it was all about intelligence, educational background, drug use, and other factors, then obviously only certain people would have this dilemma. As far as I can tell, this affects young people everywhere regardless of social status, ethnicity, financial background, or any other things that attempt to separate people into groups. That leads me to think that the common fact is that people experiment and make mistakes regardless of intelligence. Many people aren't concerned with the consequences of their actions but it doesn't mean they aren't intelligent. They might be a genius but suffer from major trouble with responsibility.
There are always exceptions to every statistic.
I'm sure Michael Jordan has missed a few lay ups in his day.
Steven Spielberg had a few movies that flopped.
And people who you wouldn't think to be susceptible to certain behavior/situations can often be.
To err is human.
But speaking statistically, lower income people, with poor school performance histories and lower intelligence, are greatly more susceptible to young pregancy and out of wedlock pregnancy.
But such behavior effects everyone, just some to a lesser or greater degree. It's just the facts.
Opinion/Personal Experience: In my personal experiences, every girl (who was born during my generation) who has gotten pregnant before the age of 22 has had a history of either poor school performance, drug use, or generally bad life decisions. Not to say there isn't a girl out there who made all the right decisions and simply goofed up one day and got pregnant - it could to anyone. But to ignore the stats would be foolish.
jcwagers, I suggest you read a little more about social problems before assuming all people of all backgrounds and all situations are equally susceptible to certain things. People are very very different. Anyone on the front lines social issues knows this.

I agree that the stats should be considered. All I was getting at was that a person shouldn't be looked at as a stat but as a person. Stats are about numbers....and they matter little as to what defines a person. All stats say is that the same decision was made by many different people. That has little to do with their character as a person.
I believe the responsibility, intelligence, and decision making partly define each person's character and personality.
Some people who are jumpy, looking for a thrill, irresponsible, are more likely to make bad decisions.
Nothing wrong with making assumptions about people as long as they're not set in concrete and you keep an open mind to find the truth.
No one has the time to investigate each person enough to know the entirety of every situation they ever made.
If someone had 2 armed robberies, 4 assault, and 5 drug charges to their record, I'd bet you'd make a few "assumptions" about their personality and intelligence. (This is an extreme case.)
Assumptions must be made. It's impossible to avoid them.
Now, let's get back to flaming Desparate Housewives and Sex in the City..! :thumbsup:

Women don't automatically stop being attractive once they hit 30. Sure, they may be caked with make-up but you can just turn the lights off when their make-up is off.

Heck, I sure dont mind middle age women that act sexy, but only if they look sexy. Sexy for their age, that is. And of course there comes a limit, where say around 60 years old it becomes very hard to look sexy at all.

You know why they have them all over TV? Because they appeal to the demographics that matters Men and Women 30+, not some clueless teenage and twenty somethings who most of their advertisers couldn't give a crap about. Just like politics, those in you age group are low on the list because you guys don't really matter unless our President needs someone for cannon fodder!

Well teenagers are one of the largest consumers (spending mommy and daddy's money) so if they have a sexy older woman; that appeals to both demographics. Father and son can fantasize about the same woman.

My standards definitely aren't low; they're just not ridiculously high. Are you going to stop being attracted to your future wife when she starts to show signs of aging? Are you going to complain when she starts to put on a little make-up to cover up some of her wrinkles? Good god man, attractive is attractive, whether it's with the help of make-up or not. Women generally don't age very well so if they have to put on a little make-up to help them look attractive, that's not really a bad thing.
And yes I do fix things with duct tape. I'm in college, what more could you expect?
