Mid range system prices

It is sort of frustrating that each time a new mid range build post is unleashed newegg changes their prices. For example, can't get the corsair 300r case any longer for $50. Can't someone talk to newegg about being a little more loyal to anandtech readers and not manipulate price as soon as a parts are recommended and linked to their website?

The new rule is add 10% to the listed build price due to rebates expiring or pice changes.

A 300R for $50 is a sale. It's either limited by time or count of sales as soon as that price hits. When it comes to sales, you need to jump on them. Even without that sale, mfenn's build still comes to $1k. It's a bang/buck guidepost, not a list of the only parts you can or should buy.

There's nothing to talk to Newegg about. Cheap prices are either on items they must get rid of ASAP, that help sell whole builds (where they make money on other parts), or are part of sales in which the difference in cost is being subsidized by their distributor and/or the product maker.

L0L... Have you contacted Anand about that?
He can put that on his "To do" list.

Yes, it is frustrating to folks trying to get into this hobby. I would read an article, get an expectation of costs, then find some of them to be no longer valid. Newegg is in this game to make money. Can't fault them there.

This drove me to seek alternatives parts or vendors. With a bit more digging I often found equivalent, or better, parts for the same price, or cheaper. It's part of the "hobby" I guess.

I agree with what everyone has said - I just have seen better working relationships between parts suppliers and the hobbies they serve and if someone is going to promote and link to a part there is not the bait and switch game going on by the vendor - I am very patient so I when the time comes I will monitor prices more carefully and take my time in ordering - I just know that you cannot get stuff for the exact same prices even when checking within a day of the post.

I'll get right on that. :awe:

I want to make it very clear that I have no relationship with Newegg beyond that of an ordinary customer. I just link parts on their site because it is convenient.

I think the challenge that the OP is facing is that online vendors, especially Newegg and Amazon, change their prices frequently. Newegg is actually somewhat predictable, in that most of the really hot prices it publishes are in e-mailed specials, and have a set expiration date. I have never seen a deal expire earlier than published, except for a Haswell CPU/motherboard promotion in July that was supposed to go through July 31st but ended on July 18th. That was a bad move on Newegg's part, but it was rare.

Amazon changes its prices several times a day on popular items, although I'm not sure it has much to do with whether someone on a forum recommends it. I assume it has more to do with stock on hand.
