Mid-range graphics card related query

Hey guys,

I'm planning to buy a graphics card for my new desktop. It's an AMD 6300 machine with 8Gigs of RAM and a 1378x768 monitor. I'd want to max out all of today's games. I understand that at my resolution I can't get a significant difference between a mid-range card and a high-end card. So my choices are the GTX-650 Ti, Radeon HD 7770 and 7790.

Can anyone help me narrow down my choices to one one these?

Putting the money towards a higher resolution monitor would be a smarter move.

I cant really get a bigger monitor as I stay in a pigeon-hole size dorm!

I don't get it, surely the OP has answered his own question - physical limitations preclude getting a bigger monitor, so get the mid-range card as he has already said that a high range card wouldn't help.

Unless the OP thinks that he will have finished uni (?) soon and he wants to plan his upgrade path beyond that.

The only other possible reason I can think of to get a higher-range card would be if he wants to continue max'ing out AA/AF on the same resolution for years to come. I don't use AA/AF personally so I don't have much substance to make my point on this topic.

The fastest overall is the 7790. The slowest (and most likely cheapest) the 7770.

So it will come down to price differences and specific games you play.

I think the 7790 should be able to get an average of 60 fps in a good number of games at that resolution.

EDIT: I'm assuming that the GTX 650 Ti is the GK107 based one and not the GTX 650 Ti boost based on the GK106.

I'd say get the 7790, or even the 7850 if it's not too much more expensive just in case you're able to upgrade to 1600x900 monitor at some point.

Get a 7790 for when you get a better monitor, which you should do.

At your resolution go for the cheapest option (which would be the HD 7700). I've got an HD 7770 in a secondary PC and it can play most games on high (or one notch below max settings - whatever its called in the specific game) @ 1680x1050 and keep a smooth frame rate.
