Mid range build alternatives

I am not interested in over clocking so are there parts that are cheaper that I can go with (I assume 4670 vs. 4670k is an obvious choice) but can I get a cheaper m/b or will I be sacrificing performance.

Motherboards are receptacles for the parts that actually do all of the computing, i.e GPU and CPUs and aside from controlling certain features that can increase performance, i.e CPU overclocking, are "passive" objects. They are glorified printed circuit board with components parts attached to them with solder. Any and all problems are due to broken circuits or an "unsuitable" amount of electricity passing through them.

There's a little more to a mobo than that, but the net result is correct. There is very very little performance difference between different motherboards, and what is there is usually due to them having different default settings.
