I don't know if the microwave radiation will cause any problems, but, the fact that the microwave is on the same circuit might cause some power fluctuations (when it's running) that could cause you some instability.

For that reason, (and mostly because it's a good idea) I'd be sure to have my PC plugged into a reliable UPS. The Microwave, of course, would NOT be plugged into the ups.

In any event, I'd be more concerned about how close I was sitting to the microwave vs the PC.

You might want to post this in highly technical...

Well, microwave ovens generally operate at about 2.45Ghz. I believe they output a CW pulse. Depending on how leaky your microwave is, it could (and they do) interfere with any 802.11b / Bluetooth wireless hardware. So will the 2.4Ghz cordless phones.

As far as interfering with the digital hardware, I would be more concerned with the power fluctuations as dman stated. Rest assured that if the microwave were leaky enough to cause EMI issues with the digital logic of your PC you'd probably have a bigger problem with your hair falling out.

Microwave ovens produce non ionising radiation. The only risks to health would be RF burns and possibly electrical shock if the leak is severe. Since a magnetron is a CW device that operates at full power, regulation is accomplished with turning it on and off with a duty cycle. This on and off cycle can cause the line voltage to fluctuate up and down. All microwaves particularly models with 1kW of RF power should be on a dedicated circuit anyways...

Cheers!

i was thinking the oppsite, with clock speed of the pc, going @ 2 Gig, up to today. It come dame close to the microwave frequency. I think you computer will help out that microwave some what, like it or not. You better believe it. If i were you i would think about protect yourself being baked one of these days. Just kidding
