I've have no issue with OEM cables in general, but my TouchPad cable went bad, my Amazon Basics went bad, my Mediabridge went bad, and a short 2 ft Samsung cable went bad on me.
My oldest Moto Droid cable still going strong, and same with the microUSB that came wtih my Nokia N82.
With that said its good that the spring mechanism is on the cable and not the port itself, so you don't need to replace a port that often, but still... a flat connector like Lightning would be far more durable and less prone to loosening up.
