Any comments on this scanner? It's currently $29.95 + shipping ($8 I believe). I need a cheap scanner for occaisional use and might pull the trigger on this one.

"600 x 1200-dpi optical resolution and 36-bit color..."

meh. I would spend an extra $10-20 for 1200x1200 and 40-bit.

The Visioneer looks better, cheaper and 48 bit color. Does anyone know of an inexpensive scanner that does 81/2 inch x 14. I sometimes would like to scan/copy that size and have yet to find a scanner that will do that in one pass. Lynn

The scan looks a bit wash-out, overall it is ok. Never mind 36 bits or 48 bits, higher bits not necessarry looks better.

bits dont matter b/c most drivers will bring in it down to 24 bits after is scanned through the hardware.....

Unless the cost is the overriding issue, I would pass on this and buy either a nicer MicroTek or an Epson. Although MicroTek produces some of the best scanners (professional and semi-professional), they went bottom feeding with the C Series scanners in an attempt to sell into the low end market. If you have a spare SCSI card, pick up an E6 or better off Ebay and you will be amazed at the quality. My wife uses a Scanmaker 4 in her home business. Both it and the E6 are built like tanks.

One positive about the C Series or any other Microtek scanner, MicroTek provides some of the best drivers in the industry. Very solid and trouble free.

Hmmm...can't get a total read on the recommendations. Price is an overriding issue since I can only see myself using it once every 1 or 2 months. Basically only if I need to scan in some business provided photos for a web site I might be creating.

Seems like the Microtek would be sufficient, but I'll wait a few days to pull the trigger.
