{to PC Ressources} Is that you Linus??? Come one you can tell us...;)

I just installed Linux (Mandrake 7.2) 2 days ago. I have to say that the install went perfectly, and it's very easy to do, just like Windows. I wouldn't say it's easier since I consider both to be as easy as it can be. I booted and ran what most people said was the easiest, KDE. I did have problems with my sound card and NIC, but eventually found out it was caused by my BIOS having Plug&Play OS set to YES. After I fixed that, everything was set up right. I actually liked the feel of it, and thought it was pretty simple, until I started installing programs. I'm the type who will download programs just to try them out, and uninstall them afterwards. I quickly learned that this wouldn't be possible, as it's too long and annoying. (at least for me) A clean install of Windows and then proceeding to install all the programs I regularly use, and having everything setup as I like it will take me at most 3-4 hours. The same thing would probably take me a week or two in Linux, and this is with what's supposedly the easiest dist. to use. I know I'd get better in the long run, but it's just not worth it for a home system.

I spent the whole day in Linux, and you should of seen the smile on my face when I booted back to Windows tonight... Thank God for .exe files! ;) Bottom line is my Linux partition will probably be deleted in a week or so, because I know won't be using it. It has a great potential, and with enough improvements to make it user friendly so it's time efficient, it will gain popularity, and probably will take over what Microsoft has to offer in 2 or 3 years, but in the meantime, I'd rather spend my valueable time doing something else than typing command lines in a console.

Microsoft sure is going the length to protect the XP from getting on a warez site... I think microsoft is aiming the XP for the corporate users and not home users : disgust; Linux is always a good thing to learn...or i can stay wit my win2000.

Sugardaddy:

The uninstallation of programs in Linux is as easy as it is in Windows, if you used RPM to install, you just use RPM to uninstall, if there was an installation script provided, there is usually an uninstall script too, if you unpacked the files, all you have to do is to go to the folder and delete them, it really isn't hard at all...

You like windows better, and you will probably not use Linux for a while, that i can understand, however, i would suggest that you check out new Linux distros (Mandrake, Corel) as they come along, some day you might find that the free route is actually the more attractive route for you...

All i am saying, just because your first experience with Linux wasnt all great, don't give up on it, eventually if you spend some time with it you might actually prefer it over windows...
