{to PC Ressources} Is that you Linus??? Come one you can tell us...
I just installed Linux (Mandrake 7.2) 2 days ago. I have to say that the install went perfectly, and it's very easy to do, just like Windows. I wouldn't say it's easier since I consider both to be as easy as it can be. I booted and ran what most people said was the easiest, KDE. I did have problems with my sound card and NIC, but eventually found out it was caused by my BIOS having Plug&Play OS set to YES. After I fixed that, everything was set up right. I actually liked the feel of it, and thought it was pretty simple, until I started installing programs. I'm the type who will download programs just to try them out, and uninstall them afterwards. I quickly learned that this wouldn't be possible, as it's too long and annoying. (at least for me) A clean install of Windows and then proceeding to install all the programs I regularly use, and having everything setup as I like it will take me at most 3-4 hours. The same thing would probably take me a week or two in Linux, and this is with what's supposedly the easiest dist. to use. I know I'd get better in the long run, but it's just not worth it for a home system.
I spent the whole day in Linux, and you should of seen the smile on my face when I booted back to Windows tonight... Thank God for .exe files!
Bottom line is my Linux partition will probably be deleted in a week or so, because I know won't be using it. It has a great potential, and with enough improvements to make it user friendly so it's time efficient, it will gain popularity, and probably will take over what Microsoft has to offer in 2 or 3 years, but in the meantime, I'd rather spend my valueable time doing something else than typing command lines in a console.
