Whenever I try to use word, it'll give me an error every so often and force me to close the application and pretty much start over. Sometimes it recovers my stuff, but sometimes it doesn't as well. I have NO IDEA what this error is and it's pissing me off. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the error is totally random and just happens at any given moment. I don't really need to solve the problem (though if you could help me, that'd be great!), I just need to not have that error window pop up and force me to close so i can just keep typing.

thanks a lot guys

Hmm, do you have the original disk ...?

My thoughts exactly. FWIW OfficeXP (Word) has only crashed one time for me during the year I have been using it.

If you don't want to pay for an office suite, Openoffice will give you fewer headaches.

Try deleting your normal.dot file (Word will recreate it next time you open Word). If that doesn't help, uninstall/reinstall.

Install it from the original disk. If you don't have it then you shouldn't even be posting a thread like this.

I don't think it's the fact that you have a burned disc copy. I have one also, and it has never given me any problems. (And by that, I mean that it's an Academic Copy that I got and paid for from my University, and they have an M$ agreement. But it's never given me any problems.)

Are these documents that you are working on, have some exclusive features or formatting that you are trying do? And by that, I mean something out of the norm from most normal Word documents?

No, it's nothing out of the ordinary.... It's just me typing up a new document.

PS. I just downloaded a new copy, and it does the same thing.
PPS. Maybe I should get the original copy fro my friend.

You're complaining that your illegally downloaded software won't work?

Have you tried completely uninstalling it? If that doesn't work, then the only solution that I can think of is to install another office suite or format. Try Open Office. It's a full office suite like MS Office and it's free so you don't have to feel bad about using warez anymore.

You're not supposed to tell us that!

Some ideas but pretty much what others recommended here. Try installing it to another system to see if it works fine on at least one system.
