MICROSOFT WORD IS A ****** PEICE OF SH*T

Yup.. so i had my paper due this afternoon.. at 4pm.. and guess what i couldnt turn it in.

Why.. cause word ****** up!

Word has this horrid auto formatting. SO from like 2:30 i had tried redoing the formatting, finally got it setup right. The problem was half the docment was setup as 'footers' rather than body text.. And tehn when i was trying to move a page up.. it did a repagination.. and crashed!

Then i got the machine up, i couldtn print it here, it takes too long on my inkjet, so i sent it to the color printer at schoool.. guess what .. that thing somehow screwed up.. it wont print right on that end i had to cancel the print!

SOmehow when word crashed, it must have done something.. i checked the docment before sending it seemed fine here, but it got screwed up at school

GRRr.. I ****** hate microsoft.. it really shafted me today!

I use notepad. Open source if not.

OpenOffice....

Except I got a few points taken off my last essay because the default OpenOffice margins are larger than Microsoft Words ... prof thought I was trying to circumvent the minimum page limit -_-

Microsoft Word is like wiping your ass with silk compared to the ultimate PITA that is Lotus Notes (apples to oranges I know, but that program drives me absolutely bonkers)

Openoffice's biggest mistake is trying to be like office. Why copy a crappy program? Do you hope to do it "better"?

I don't get it. Windows XP is good. Why is office, a much more expensive software package, so incredibly bad?

okay, so you're the guy bitching about being 8 pages short on a paper that was due, right? So you left it to the very last minute, asking people around here how to pad your paper to achieve the length.

Now since Word crashed, you hate it? Seems to me you got what was coming for waiting till the last minute, and then, on top of that, trying to pad the paper.

M$ makes the most intuitive software around. This hatred for the entire company because of this 1 event is unfounded.

Ugh I loathe Notes. I give thanks daily that I don't have to deal with that steaming pile of sh*t anymore.

I don't know about that... Notes 5 sucked, but Notes 6 is pretty slick.

But, yeah, it probably would have been a good idea to copy your entire Word document and paste it into WordPad or something simular to get rid of that screwed up formatting.

why did you try all that fancy word crap

just copy paste the parts back together in another word document

no need for repagination

but you waited till the last second your fault not MS's...I am pretty sure half the document didnt get into a footer by magic

Try supporting it. I had never even used Notes before I got my current job doing desktop support. Our company uses Notes though, so I support it. What a steaming pile of turds it is. And talk about slow, ugh.

Let me tell you a story about how Microsoft Word almost cost me $130 and a whole lot of pain.

Microsoft Word had been crashing every so often a little while ago. Then my dad got a nasty virus on his computer that forced him to do a reformat. After several painful days of assisting him in restoring his computer, he asked me to search for his Microsoft Office XP disc, which was pirated (he got it from someone at work). I could not locate this disc for the life of me. I searched high and low, in every nook and cranny. It drove me nuts because I knew that I had not lost the disc. Nonetheless, I told him that I was just going to install OpenOffice and he seemed fine with it. I even renamed the programs to their MS Office counterparts to avoid confusion on his part. After about 2 days of usage, he comes up to me and says that he doesn't like OpenOffice, and he would like me pay $130 for a Student Edition of MS Office. He didn't give me any reasons on why he didn't like OpenOffice... when I asked him for specifics, he wouldn't give me an answer. The real reason was that he was too narrow-minded to try open-source software, as I learned later. Anyhow, there was no way I was going to pay $130 for a disc that HE pirated, so I looked again. Then it dawned on me: The disc was in an old CD-RW drive from my dad's old Dell. I found it and returned it to him, henceforth thwarting his efforts to get $130 out of me to pay for his pirated software. All of this was caused by MS Office. The moral of the story: Microsoft Office is the spawn of Satan.

Often, people who don't know how to use Word will complain about how it screwed up their documents.

From the description of the problem, you are one such person. Learn how to use Word.

ive never had a problem with it....but yeah it seems it was your fault for doing this at the last minute...

peopel always seem to have problems with word if they dont save often or at least autosave......and try to print stuff up at the last possible minute...

Never experienced any of those issues... and i've been using Word for like 10 years, and written well over 50 papers on it... and not including all the other stuff i've used with it.

My complaint with Word isn't that it "screws up my documents". My complaint is that it takes so many workarounds and tricks and turning off of features to get my documents looking like I want, and then when I save and reopen, or if I try to save in a different format, it often changes in appearance.

One thing I REALLY like about Word is the auto-replace where common mistypes, which could be nothing but mistypes, are corrected (teh -> the). This really improves my typing speed.

But every other autocorrect option, the grammar checker, the auto-paragraph formatting, the auto-numbering/bulleting, the save as web page, and the image handling system all SUCK. Especially the images (you can usually turn off the other stuff). Why do very slight mouse movements make the image fly all over the place, possibly disappearing? Why can't you just anchor an image where you want it, maybe nudging it a bit to get it right, and have the TEXT move to accomodate?

MS should just admit that its new products are just patches with 1 new feature installed. I mean come on 95 to 98 to 98SE to ME was all just wasted money and patches.

Look at IE if anyone working in a tech support center would pay $1 that we don't have to hear whining and bitching from customer about why my computer is slow because of the spyware that was installed everyone would be somewhat happier with MS.
