Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse problems

I just got a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse and it has problems. It's a standard 2-button wireless wheel mouse with wheel.
Sometimes when I move the mouse, the pointer jumps in the opposite direction.
I've tried changing the channel many times.
The desk surface is white... sort of smooth, but not glossy.
I've tried using it on a piece of paper with writing on it, it seemed to work better on that, but still not as well as my mouse with ball.

Anyone else experience similar problems?

Maybe your desk just isn't suited to using it. Try an optical mouse pad. My friend uses a black binder as his pad and it works well for him.
