Microsoft Windows for PowerPC processor

Microsoft likes money. Who knows? Personally, I don't think they'd go for it, at least until they finish their Anti-Trust lawsuits. Selling an OS for both PCs and Macs would definitely be seen as a monopolistic move.

At the moment it'd be more likely that Apple would release OS(insert number here) on the x86. Even if M$ released on the PowerPC, they wouldn't get any converts and new customers would be a very tough market.

But you also have to consider that powerPC chips are much cheaper than Intel and AMDs flagships, so the liklihood of the big OEMs to take on powerPC would be strong, and of course IBM wouldnt mind having a mainstream consumer CPU im sure.

If this news is true i'd care more about games being ported to apple.

Windows is behind OSX and the only thing holding apple back is games. Their prices push it more into the gamer's league and they should offer more.

Does this mean port over games like Halo will not happen as often or fast?

MS does have a huge PC gaming componant to the business model

opening up powerpc architecture would be huge though because IBMs line is massive.

You can go from the ultra cheap 500mhz PPCs to the crazy dual core 2.0ghz+ models. Not to mention the big mobo manufacturers would love to charge you AMD/Intel like prices for hardware IBM is selling now for $30/$40 a pop.

I remember reading Slashdot when the story broke about Windows 2000's source code (or portions thereof) being stolen, and people had read through it and saw references to Win2k versions for PPC and Alpha, like NT4 was. Unfortunately these never made it out the door.

I think if MS does make Windows for other architectures they'll wait until 64-bit is the norm.
