There's a rumour i heard about sometime next year, Microsoft will come with maybe patches to their windows product which will block internet access if the OS is pirated(not original). Is it true? I never heard of that before until now. Is Microsoft able to do that?

sure they could do that if they built it in, if they wanted to they could just make the thing not boot at all...

How about you just buy Windows if you want to use it and than you wouldnt have to worry about it?

Who cares? It will take -2 days for someone to distribute a patch, that is, two days before the MS patch becomes reality...

Are they able to do it... sure, but they can never stop anyone from supplying the programs needed to connect, you just have to use third party software...

The smart ones will learn from MS mistakes and migrate to OpenSource alternatives as fast as possible... i like that... GO MS!

I do believe they could do it on Windows XP but will they be able to do on older OS such as 98 & ME?

heck they already did it! :)
If you wonder what I mean they released an Security Update that blocked internet access on some computers; but they pulled it out almost as soon as it was out

Windows cost ALOT in my part of country. Not every home user can afford that kind or expenses on original softwares every month.

Actually it's quite inexpensive no matter how you cut it, if you figure that XP Home OEM costs ~ $90 and you would figure that the average "home-based end-user" would use it for 3 years that breaks down to about $2.50 a month (the cost in other countries will of course vary) also if you can buy the upgrade version (most can) you are looking at about half that. Considering how many hours I'm generally behind a computer per month that sounds quite cheap compared to everything else associated with it (that's cheaper than the electricity I burn on running my home desktop alone).

Well, just to give you guys an idea of what I mean by ALOT, A Office XP Home Edition cost between 300 - 400 in my country & the cheapest more popular original game titles costs around 100++. That's the reason why I said not every home user can afford that kind of expense. If only the local Microsoft would stop thinking of making big bucks out of us & reduce the costs, I for one would definitely go for original.

Office XP is quite expensive everywhere, but most of those figures do sound quite high.

Out of curiosity where are you from?

I am from the Asia region. I know the exchange rates does affect the costs but considering how much we earn per month, those price is just too high. Average earning of the lower & middle class which is the majority earning each month is around 800 - 1500. With that kind of salary per month, how does Microsoft expect the people to use original softwares?

Well I may as well say what all the zealots here are about to jump in with, if the cost is too high you may want to consider something open source such as Linux.

Or who knows, the way many of the companies here are looking to expand out there you may see the prices drop in the next few years.
