After you build a new rig, how do you install Windows XP since everything is brand new?

Your old one might be fine as long as you don't have it installed in two places at once.

Where are you getting $300 from? You shouldn't need to spend more than $100 for XP Home or $150 for XP Pro.

Well this is Canadian money, It's $130 for Home SP2 and $250 for Pro SP2 although I would like to use my old one, but the problem is it's registered with microsoft over the net.:(

Is it an OEM version or a retail copy?

It's definitely transferrable to your new PC then, even if it's already been registered/activated. You just need to remove it from your existing PC.

You can format the hard drive during the Windows install or with the disc included (if any) w/ the hard drive.

You boot directly from the CD. As stars mentioned, you can format the drive and begin the installation process all from Windows setup.
