But other than that, look at the cross-platform games like Madden. Are there noticeable graphic qualities between the PS3 version and the Xbox 360 version? If there it's minuscule. You don't need a bluray disc for games except for maybe a game like FF13. It just requires more work to get the same information onto a DVD for Xbox 360.

Madden has "mediocre" graphics...

Enough said

You realize I could say basically the same thing to all of those MS complaints. "big deal" "Who gives a shit". None of those complaints affect me. But they do affect other people.

I have both a PS3 and Xbox 360. They're both good. I'm just saying no company is perfect. They don't give a shit about you and they are only out to make money.

Having just a DVD drive in their next console will piss of consumers. If they go straight digital downloads, it'll also piss off a lot of retailers.

Going digital only would piss everyone off because Microsoft doesn't use real currency for their stores. It's a good reason why a lot of people don't switch to the Zune over an ipod even though it is a better device.

Microsoft has had many flops .. always a case of too late to market or just plain junk.
Windows Millenium Edition
Windows Vista (good try, but to hard for ordinary folks)
Internet Explorer .. still not good, but IE9 may be a step in the right direction
Bing search engine .. it works, but nowhere near as good as Google
HD-DVD ... another flop, when everyone else decided Blu-Ray is the best

Here's a tip: Whatever MS thinks is best, bet against them. Except for the OS which is ok, but bloated.

Exactly. I can't wait for the spin even though it is predictable.

TBH MS should just stick a HD DVD drive in the next xbox so they can pump out higher quality games. they can do their streaming crap as well but they will need a physical medium as well, no way US broadband will be at the place it needs to be for BR quality like streaming in the next decade

Yeah! Let's stick with a Sony creation and their wonderful track record.

1. PS3 delayed to market to force a tech

A move which was instrumental in Blu Ray winning the HD format war...

2. Rootkits, Enough said
3. Different models of the Sony PS3 support different levels of backwards compatability with Sony PS2 games? Nice.

Most early in the PS3's lifecycle, when everyone acknowledged Sony was stepping all over it self.

4. Removed the ability to install Linux via an update? Awesome!

Damn, you're right! I better run home and power up my Linux-based Xbox 360 right away! Errrr, wait a minute....

5. Reports of drives dying in PS3 units and overheating.

Yeah, I'm glad I got my 360 first. Those 4 RRODs and 2 dead DVD drives REALLY gave me comfort that I bought such a "reliable" console.

6. Want to talk about overpriced accessories and consoles?

Sure, tell me about the $200 120 GB drive "accessory" MS offered when a retail 120 GB drive was $70. I could go out tomorrow and get a $70 160 or 200 GB drive and slap in my PS3 with no problem. With Microsoft? Nope! You have to buy theirs and if you do manage to hack one to work, you risk getting banned.

7. Playstation Move.

LOL. Kinect is a POS as well. What's your point?

8. PS3 requiring disc to use Netflix...

You might want to read up on why that is -- hint, it has nothing to do with Sony and everything to do with an exclusive deal MS made with Netflix. Oh and by the way, I don't have to purchase any sort of membership (other than the Netflix membership, obviously) to use Netflix on a PS3. On the Xbox, you have to buy a Gold membership. BRILLIANT move Microsoft, BRILLIANT.

Need we go on and on? Every company has misteps and failures.

No kidding, thanks for the tip. The interesting thing is that this thread is about -- gasp -- Microsoft!

I've been personally burned by MS. Sony has not burned me with the PS3 yet.

For the record, the rootkits had nothing to do with the PS3. Sony BMG was the perpetrator there, not Sony Computer Entertainment.

With LikeLinus' logic, the Xbox 360 is at fault for Vista sucking.

FYI, disc-less Netflix hit the PS3 in Canada today and will come to the US in October (when Microsoft's exclusive contract ends).

Yes, exciting news. Microsoft's Netflix interface is nice, but it is absurd that I have to pay for a Gold membership fee to use it. No more after these subscriptions expire.

Seems like Microsoft is just mad they didn't incorporate bluray into the 360 and this is their cop-out. But like all things, there will be something that eventually phases out bluray. Like how eventually cartridges were phased out and consoles moved to discs. What was the last non hand-held console that used "cartridges", the Nintendo 64?

Well DD is definitely working out for Apple. You can't even buy a Mac with a Blu-Ray drive IIRC. I think the success of Netflix shows that consumers don't really care about 40mbps 1080p 5.1 DTS content vs. streaming.

The DS is highly popular and uses "cartridges"

That must be why they still consider Apple TV a "hobby" after all these years? It must be a roaring success:rolleyes:

Yeah I was referring to non-handhelds...

I think the DS is Nintendo's last handheld cartridge-based system, I think I read some news about that a few months ago.

I'd love to be able to stream everything, including Netflix's entire dvd/bluray collection with the click of a button. But, ISPs are first going to have to get out of the stone age and raise monthly bandwidth limits - which I'm sure will come with higher fees. Netflix will in turn raise their monthly subscription fees because of the massive bandwidth and storage requirements on their end.
