Microsoft Update on XP Broken

I am a Help Desk for a large company. We are still running Windows XP SP3

We use MS Update to install patches manually as needed, but typically use SCCM to do the heavy lifting on patches.

Last month, there was a MS Update program update consisting of 3 parts. It worked fine for a couple of weeks. Last week, MS Update stopped working for us. After installing the first of the 3 components, we go into a loop of reloading the "Checking if your computer has the latest version..." page.

Has anyone else seen this, or is it just an Enterprise issue here at our company?

I really hate to crank up our security people if it's an MS thing that we should be fixing ourselves.

Thanks!

I have seen cache/proxy issues jack up XP update in the past. If you can try on a wide open internet connection.
