I used to be a Unix sysadmin and when I started I had no idea what I was doing. But in a pretty short time I was on top of it. Then we switched over to NT four years ago, and we still can't do everything we could do with Unix. More Microsoft BS.

Oh, how would migrating to MS help them get away from that trap? Instead of being dependant on their Unix-vendor, they would be dependant on Microsoft! And considering that MS has again hiked prices on their products and they were convicted of abusing their monopoly, how exactly would it help the companies to become dependant on them??

If the companies feel that the are trapped with Unix, there is a real way out, and it's called Linux. Their Unix-admins would have short learning-curve when they learn Linux, and they could port their apps to Linux rather easily. Migrating from Unix to Windows, would be taking ten steps back when it comes to reliability, security and robustness.

No kidding. Nothing like being harassed by MS because they want you to upgrade your licenses from NT 4.0 to 2k Server.

And expensive experts, thats insane. I'd think most novice unix admins would jump at the chance to put their skills to good use. If you're a so called MS Expert (MSCE) you've got to pay for that training some how...

ummmmm........You do know we are talking about the server market where Microsoft has never had a larger share right?
 
uhhhh doesn't anyone remember that article that came out about a year ago that said microsoft had to dump NT for Unix to run its hotmail servers? But I guess taht since they are microsoft they can afford the extra "expense"

whatever, you'll be hardpressed to find a single company that wants competition. i guess all companies are lame, eh?

Well, they didn't dump NT. When MS bought Hotmail, it ran BSD. It was embarrasing for MS to have one of their website operate on competing "hobbyist" OS, so they decided to migrate Hotmail-servers to Windows. But, they failed. Windows was just incapable of operating under the load Hotmail had, so they had to keep the BSD-servers there.
