Linky!

I wouldn't think it would matter that much to them. Guess they're thinking it will be a problem in the future.

They're just mad because Sun put out Star Office. :)

odd considering that some of their parts come from open source (eg the telnet program)

<< Don't they steal most of their software anyway? >>

No. They just buy the company that makes it.

<< But the more important thing he hopes you won't notice is that in the brave new .NET world, you would lose even the meager rights you have now under Microsoft's End-User License Agreement. You would own nothing. You would instead become ever more dependent on Microsoft to provide the basic services that your computer and your business rely on to function. You would have to absolutely trust Microsoft to neither deliberately violate your privacy for business advantage nor to leave your vital data exposed to crackers like those who break into Microsoft's own servers every few weeks. >>

.NET, anyone?

Let's just hope that MicroShaft's soapbubble bursts before it does any more harm.

Well, the speech has been posted on Microsoft's web site now. ESR pretty much predicted what they would say exactly. Quite amusing...

In short, Microsoft doesn't like the GPL because it's competition, and furthermore they aren't allowed to use the code in their products. Not suprisingly, they want to scare people away from it.

They've been bad mouthing the GPL under their breath for years.
They're making a mistake of biblical proportions with this .NET crap.
I've pretty much decided my current copy of Winders will be my last. I won't install XP when it comes out, I don't need to. As soon as the regular Joe learns this fact MS will be in a world of hurt.

Probably not. Regular Joe buys PC's from Dell, compaq, Gateway, etc. They don't have a choice. OEM bundles...

A subscription based OS will not fly. Linux popularity will go through the roof, soon. JMHAO

i think hamburgerpimp is right on the subscription based o/s idea. and if ms stumbles as badly as i think they will on this .net thing, linux could gain some serious ground.
