Why would you ever want less competition in the market? Competition = good for consumers.

That's like saying you only want gas from one company and you wished all the other companies would die. You think gas prices would stay the same if Exxon was the only company in the market?

you dreamcast fanboys are comparing apples to oranges.

The sega saturn came out at the same time as ps1. Not dreamcast. And we all know how great the sega saturn was :Q

What's wrong with GC hardware?

nothing is wrong w/ the hardware. just that their system isn't very appealing for some reason. i was a nintendo fanatic until i bought a n64 and played mario 64 in all it's pitiful 3D glory.

LMAO at this thread.

Why the hell would Nintendo "die"?

also...

Poor Nintendo being bullied by Microsoft?

LOL.

Nintendo may not have a huge share of the game market but as long as they still make money, it really doesn't matter from a business standpoint. So why stop producing consoles and games if you're making money on them?
rolleye.gif

Poor Nintendo? Nintendo is a worldwide company. It always has a strong showing Japan pretty much no matter what cr@p they produce, and as I said from a business standpoint they are doing pretty damn well. Thats not even taking into account the Gameboy Advance, the biggest money maker of them all. (Now theres a monopoly....)

Do some research befoure spouting such stupid comments. All three companies are going to be around for a while. X-Box 2 is in the future, and Nintendo already said they are going to make another console after the GC. As for Sony, the PS2 has been out for a much longer time than the GC and X-Box, they've made their money (its outnumbers either system in sales by A LOT already, and it'll take a LONG time before either the X-Box or GC will catch up, if ever) and it seems their not pushing very hard in the game market anymore w/ the PS2. PS3 anyone?

All I can say from a consumer standpoint is that I'm happy. All 3 companies are here to stay and keep competiting w/ each other driving prices down and the quality/quantity of games up. Your pure hatred of any console maker is ridiculuous, grow up.

The console market makes it's money in software and licsening fees.

True that the consoles do not make money but they can't have it losing $100 for each console made. It would be very hard for Microsoft to just break even. I don't know exactly how much they make per game but it probably is around $10-15 for a 3rd party game. Microsoft is not trying to make money off the Xbox. They want to grab as much as the market as they can before they come out with the Xbox2. I wouldn't even be surprised if they hurry and it comes out the same time as the PS3.

Decided to go with the xbox today :D? Which sale did you take ?

I got the deal at WalMart with 3 games, plus my mom is a pharmacist there so I got an additional 10% off.

Yeah, I spent all day yesterday fretting over whether or not to do it, but I kept thinking "How cool would it be to have a PS2 and an Xbox in my dorm, so I went ahead and got it (which I knew I was going to, I just like stressing out I guess). I went on and picked up a second controller and tommorow I am going to go trade in 2 PS2 games at Babbages and see how much I get for it, then pick up a copy of NCAA Football 2003.

Does anyone know how much Babbages gives for PS2 games? I am selling FFX and Gran Turismo 3, so does anyone have any clue on how much its worth? I know they usually give about $5 for DVD's, but I have no clue about games.

Since sega has current contracts with Nintendo and Sony, it would be interesting to see M$ making games for their competitors.

They dont really have contracts with the companies other then promised exclusives which would probably be the only ones made should this happen.

Sony does the same. They got pissed at companies putting up XBOX and GCN promo materials before launch and threatened to lower shipments to that place if they didnt scale it back. Lower shipments = less profits and since the ps2 is selling in absurd amounts they are forced to comply.

Isn't that like, against the law or something?

So, if you were a console mfg, you wouldn't get that in writing?

Why would you hope nintendo finally dies? They are a great company with humble beginnings, and it's a shame that big companies like Sony and MS rear their ugly heads out into the mix, just to grab in more money... like they aren't making enough for themselves!
If you are at all a fan of video games, you should not be against the only founding company left in the business...!

I understand how competition works, thanks much.

Since Sega console died, I hope that the whole console market died. I dont want to see any of them survive now. I was given a Dreamcast by a friend, but even though I like it, it has been in my closet for at least a year. I just dont have time for this nonsense.

Exactly, I am not for video games. If anyone should survive a serious console war, I would want it to be M$. I think the Game Cube is crap, and yes I have played it before.

If you were smart, you would have known that sega was on the way out before they even began DC production...
They introduced too many consoles into the market at too quick of a pace and lost tons of loyal customers as a result. I love their games, but when it comes to hardware, they should just let the other guys do it!

Yeah cus mario sunshine and super monkey ball rule!!!............, wait'a tick...........

Personaly I think it's a good idea. EA works in the same way, they pay anyone who has good game ideas to work for them. If game makers have more money and time to work with, that means we get better game's and gaming system's. I'd be pissed if microsoft took over EVERYTHING and jacked up the prices on gaming hardware and software, but it's not going to work like that. Microsoft will probably take over a big part of the gaming market, which is fine, they'll be putting out plenty of worth while game's and that's all that really matters. I hate the way certain sh*tty consoles have exclusive game's, and can't wait to see the end of it.

XB2 and PS3 are both slated for 2005. They WILL come out together, will guarentee you of that. Also, MS is not losing $100 per xbox anymore. With dropping prices and taking into account their $100 price drop, they are now losing around $60 per box. But as you said they are not in it for the money. They are not even in it for the XBox2. They are in it to get into the livingrooms of people's houses. They can then more easily get people to purchase set top boxes and integrate different components around the house. That is their ultimate goal and it had to start somewhere. The console is just a stepping stone and I wouldn't be surprised if the XBox 2 works with the TV to record shows and such. The XBox 2 will be a true computer in the living room.

Um, who cares about losing money on consoles? They make up for it in the games/accessories they sell. And Sony uses strong hand tactics too. "ooh bad @$$ MS is hustling out the smaller companies"......please. Sony and Nintendo could buy these companies too if they wanted but they don't. Business is business....
