Microsoft Spyware Beta changes Google links to MSN search

So I tried out the new MSN anti spyware software, just to see if it was any good (it picked up a couple of pieces of adware) but while it was installing I got an alert from spybot that the program was trying to change my google search links(on the firefox toolbar) and home page to MSN and MSN search! Did this happen to anyone else?

If this is true, I'm not installing it. It's downloaded here on my desktop right now, but if it does this, no way Jose!

Interesting. Leave it to MS to try and slip that in with a "free" download. Glad I haven't installed it yet.

oh quit ur bitchin you can change them back, its like your fingers are all worn out from phapin to make a couple of quick adjustments to features that you probably don't use anyways.

thats not the fvcking point.

im not a MS hater, but its ridiculous if this program changes your home page settings to ones more agreeable to MS.

Agreed 100%. Some people don't even know how to change simple settings back. It's these people Microsoft is banking on. Verrrry unprofessional and underhanded tactics, IMHO.

Has anyone actually confirmed that this program changes your homepage? Or are we jumping to conclusions based on some other program's warning?

I don't have FireFox installed, but for IE it allows you to setup a profile so you can restore your browser to its previous configuration in the event spyware changes it. It had no problem with Google.

Viper GTS

Lots of possibilities:

1) Your home page and search were being filtered through potential spyware, so it removed the spyware and barring any idea where to set your home page, set it to MSN

2) It does this as a precautionary measure in case of 1

3) We're not getting the whole story.

4) False

STFU fanboi thats a legit gripe..
NOTHING should ever go out and change MY search engine links without my permission...
the only reason he caught it is becasue he left his other spyware catcher running during the install..
thats LOW and SHADY business practices.. and enough to make me erase MSN and its subpages from my cpu forever...

It does not change your homepage. I just hate that it is MS now. They will fvck it up somehow.

It is the best spyware software imo opinion and now its free so I guess I'm happy.

I dled said software and had no problems with the browser hijacking. I'm certain it probably had to get rid of a spyware hijacker that already was installed thus making your homepage msn.com and or whatever it could besides that infested spyware page.
