Why didn't you say this when you switched to Firefox? Tabs aren't needed.

1) Because I like havng a web browser which is not integrated into the OS. Helps avoid trouble :)
2) I Never did like IE.

I don't really like the way it switches tabs, it's obvious it isn't native to the browser. FF switching, you can't even tell that it's switching. With this it blinks your entire screen lol.

great now all they have to do is get on board with web standards, and i'm sold.

hmmm, the way i see it, if IE has 75%+ of the market, they are the standard.

how else would you define "standard"?

W3C standards.

www.w3c.org

Defacto vs Dejure.

sorry, but IE has the Defacto standards. and in the real world, defacto standards are just as valid as Dejure standards.

Yeah, W3C defines the standards, but remember that IE6 was the most standards compliant browser at the time it came out. It blew everything else out of the water at the time.

It's just that MS hasn't kept up with the new standards since. Which sucks. :(

Not really. Folks who code pages strictly for IE lose a portion of their target audience.

Tabs are the primary reason I didn't like FF, so I'll pass.. lol

Just too used to alt-tab, I guess.

I realize I'm addicted to lots more than tabs. There's a lot of stuff this tabbing in IE doesn't support: no center click to open link in new tab, no gesturing (I use all in one gestures to switch tabs), and no ctrl + t for a new tab. Oh, and I don't like having excess toolbars in my browser, or a desktop search utility taking over the windows interface either. Time to stick to FF :)

if they have mouse gestures and extensions, then I'll switch back to IE. Small steps, I guess.

Are you going to stop using FireFox at the first opportunity you get?

Who, me? Hell no. I love FF.

The only reason why I even still use IE is b/c I HAVE TO in order to post news to Anandtech's front page. IE is required for our engine, so having tabbed browsing helps.

why is IE required for the anandtech engine?

ActiveX?

Our text/document engine integrates with IE and no other browser. Same way you can't use ForeCastFox on IE :p

ouch. no offense, but that's rather sad.

why would anyone make an angine work with strictly one web browser?

the same person coded these forums.

enough said.

You don't have to use tabs, so there must be another reason.

man, it took them 5 years to add tabs to IE? As far as ff, it works great on windows, but leaves something to be desired on other platforms. I've been using it on os x, and its a memory/cpu hog compared to safari.

I prefer IE over any other browser, but I have to admit, IE tabbed browsing looks like crap. But I guess it is their first release with it, maybe they'll make it smoother.
