Microsoft Remote Keyboard for XP MCE

hi

ive got one of these keyboards sitting around which I bought because I was going to upgrade my computers to Vista, but sine then I've backed off on upgrading my HTPC to vista for gaming reasons

that said, is there any way to get this keyboard to function w/o vista or media center? i understand the MC specific buttons wouldnt work, but I'd just like to get this to work for standard keyboard functions....and maybe the pointer/mouse

any way to get this thing to respond?

What happens when you plug the reciever in in xp? Does it recognize the reciver, if so the keyboard should work (if not look for drivers, xp drivers and mce drivers are basically the same so an mce driver should be able to install in xp (though 2005 is built on windows 2003 so its possible there could be issues).

if it autoinstalls teh reciever it should just work if you point the keyboard at it? For radio based receivers you often need to pair them but since the microsoft one is ir (at least the remotes are) it should be automatic. Does the keyboard have an obvious ir port? If so just aim it at the reciever and start typing it should pick it up if the reciever has been recognized (at the very least the lights on the receiver should blink to show they are getting an ir signal).
